As a young teenager I’d spend many a weekend buying myself a £1 day rover to Monks Cross Shopping Park so I could browse all the shops. Sadly, that would be with very little money, but the £5 my mum would give me would always cover a Maccy D’s burger and some bits and bobs from Claire’s Accessories to fulfil my ever-growing shopping addiction. (Clearly I started from a young age.) As I’ve watched some shops come and go, the likes of Topshop and New Look and more have always been permanent fixtures and with the arrival of H&M and Primark it has gotten even more interesting over the last few years. So, when I was asked to take part in the #MonksCrossStyleHacks campaign you can bet your bottom dollar I was on board!
When was the last time you really laughed? I mean like one of those side splitting, belly laughs that you very nearly, almost pee yourself? When was the last time you did something probably quite absurd that would have your parents/grandparents recoiling in horror? When did you like do something on a whim without a care in the world? And, when was the last time you took a time out with adulting and took time to embrace your inner child?
Who doesn’t love a good ol’ shopping spree? Not me, that’s for certain! With any opportunity to give my plastic some serious thrashing, I am always ready & raring to go. Ya feel me? And when White Rose, Leeds asked me to style three mannequins for their 20th Birthday Celebrations, I could not have been more involved if I had tried. To celebrate them opening in ’97 (I will have been 7. Yes, 7 years old) we were given £97 per mannequin to create three unique looks. The sheer prospect of it was enough to make me giddy.
Growing up we are always finding ways to fit in, be the best and generally muddling through our teenage lives without trying (but failing) to F up everything. I’ve spoken on here before about how my teenage years were riddled with confusion. One minute I’d find my tribe and the next I wasn’t welcome. It was hard. I’m confident, not scared to stand up for what I believe in, yet I’m plagued with worrying about the aftermath of that. As I’ve grown older I’ve found my voice a little bit more and the best way to use it, funnily enough, this blog is where I let my creative juices flow. Whilst I do wish I had certain things – “Hello, lottery win, where are ya?” I’ve managed to carve something of a life that I can feel content with. I’ve got a whistle stop tour of how you can create a more chilled out, stress-free, content life for yourself.
GALS. Listen up. I don’t know about you, but I love a good pair of shoes. Finding that perfect fit is brilliant and don’t get me started on handbags. I’m easily pleased. However, there is one thing that get’s me even more giddy and that’s finding a pair of sunglasses that match my face shape. I really struggle and I mean REALLY struggle. I have long struggled to find a pair of shades that suit my pea-head face and I believe I have found them in the form of the Erika Raybans in the #SGSFaceShape challenge. (I wish I looked cool in the Aviators!) DO YOU SEE HOW HAPPY I AM? And do you know what is even better? The Sunglasses Shop is offering one of you lucky lot the chance to win a trip to NYC. The Big bloody Apple.
