What I have learned about blogging in 2014 | QueenBeady

    Blogging 2014

As a reflection of 2014, the year that has seen my blog prosper & grow rapidly, I thought it would be great to share with you; my beloved readers, just exactly what I have learned along the way this year.

    • Having a blog break is just fine. After taking an unexpected break these last few weeks to give myself time to enjoy spending time with my husband, family & friends it has made me realise that you don’t have to post everyday! I went through a stage where I was just banging out post after post just for the sake of it, sometimes putting together an outfit or two that really didn’t look right at all. I’d rather get my content perfect (or as near as damn to it!) or not post at all. What on earth is the point of forcing it, it not only reads terribly badly but it also would have an impact on any future collaborations with brands.
    • I’m never going to be the next Zoella. So I should never try to be her. It’s easy to look at blogs and hope & wish that the next morning you will wake up & have the nicest, most read, photo pretty blog known to man (I’m looking at you Megan – why does your blog have to be so darned perfect!) Your blog takes time & boy, mine has taken some time but I sure as hell am so glad that it’s my little baby and it’s great to watch it grow. Even if they are slow & steady steps.
    • I do not have a work space. I write whenever I feel something natural coming to me. I think if I sat down in front of a computer or Mac I would freeze. Being a ”creative” comes naturally and should never be forced (see point 1). You’ll find me slobbed out on the sofa, not in the most dashing PJ attire with a cup of tea blogging. That’s just the way I like it.
    • Make friends. At 25, married & in a steady job I was never really going to meet new people, (however depressing that might sound let’s face it – it’s true!) but after submerging myself in to the blogging world this year and attending my first event, Blog Yorkshire, I have met some fabulous people (in real life I’ll have you know!) who I know if I need a lending ear/advice/general chit chat that I now have a select few people that I can turn to. It’s been super!
    • Suddenly brands start contacting you. Panic sets in, they want you to write about their product for money or a product. How can this be? LAP IT UP. You earned it. They value what you say and think your blog will showcase it well enough! That is an awesome feeling. If you feel the brand isn’t right for your blog but do remember, you can say no – however, I’ve seen a lot of people saying ”SAY YES TO MORE IN 2015!” so you might start seeing all sorts on blogs now from battery operated kangaroo’s to chocolate fireguards!
    • Have fun with it. Whether it’s your full time job or not, a blog is somewhere where people go to have a nice read of something. They want to feel happy & elated when reading your post, they want to get to know the editor/author/blogger/CEO (or whatever you want to call yourself!) behind the writing. Sometimes I find that if you aren’t seen to be enjoying it, your blog is pretty stale too. (Oops sorry!)

In 2015 I know this is where I can start to concentrate a little harder on my blog. This year has been one of those roller coaster rides with plenty of ups (but with any roller coaster you do have to come down!) I’m going to possibly invest in a new blog template and just go from there. I have no plan with my blog other than to keep enjoying it.

I hope 2014 has been kind to you all & I do hope that 2015 is even better! If you have any resolutions on your blogging journey I’d love to hear from you!

Take care & I hope you all have a wonderful New Year!

Christmas Party Dress picks | Guest Blogger Mode-Lily

First of all, hello everyone! Hope you’re having fabulous December, enjoying chai lattes, hot chocolates, Christmas markets, cosy jumpers and ridiculously cold mornings! I’m Dash, (if-I-have spare-time-on-my-hands) blogger from Leeds, you can find me over at Mode Lily, and if you fancy read my rumble about fashion, beauty (every now and then) and my (wanna-be-interesting) life go ahead and visit my blog. As Rebecca’s reader, follower and a blogging friend, I was thrilled to write for her little space in blogosphere, so I really do hope you enjoy it! I’m actually here to share with you my Christmas party dresses picks, so sit back and enjoy!

Nothing screams “party dresses” more than Christmas and yes, this party season is upon us! I have my work Christmas do in less than two weeks and as a right girly girl (ehm ehm, can I say that when I’m 30?) I’ve been picking my dress for a month now. And I love it picking the right dress and I love moaning about it as well!

The sheer amount of party dresses out there is unbelievable. So many
different colours and styles, from comfy to sexy, from elegant to rock
chic. SO, to make it easy for you, I’ve made a collage with my favourite picks and I’m going to talk about the ones I believe are the greatest standouts. Amazingly ladies, jumpsuits are still happening this season! I’m massive fan of jumpsuits as they offer great comfort for girls that would love to look trendy, classy but just don’t enjoy wearing dresses that much. The trick is making it look standout so don’t worry to go brave with accessories and I’m sure the spotlight will be yours. My second favourite pick is this she sparkly Asos dress. I know, it is for the brave but I say why not? Be a femme fatale in this sexy number and embrace the night.

    Jazz it up This Christmas

It’s alright to cover up this winter and still look chic. I felt in love with this lace fishtail maxi dress
in pink and I can see myself wearing it. It would be great to create the perfect snow princess party look. I’m also attending a winter wedding, so I can imagine I could quite easily transform this dress into a wedding outfit. Also, the flower dress by Planet and the pink embellished flapper dress would create the perfect classy Christmas party look. The blue dress by Ted Baker tells another story. It’s gorgeous, elegant, well fitted and this shade of blue, to me, represents true winter colour. You can’t go wrong with this one. If these picks are too classy for you and you only need something more party like, I would suggest a playsuit as a perfect Christmas party look. This Warehouse playsuit keeps it stylish but also it holds kind of a cool model-off-duty edge. Don’t you agree?

Hope you enjoyed our time together and if you have time, let me know which Christmas party dress idea was your favourite!
    Yours truly,
    Dash
    xx

Independent Focus: Karmisa Jewellery | QueenBeady

instagram karmisa necklace collage (2)karmisa vintage earrings (2)karmisa vintage statement bracelet (2)

Every now & then I like to delve in to the inner realms of the Independent Brands and showcase them here on my blog. Last time I interviewed Cara of Cupcake Couture which you can read about here! This time I’m chatting with Athena who owns & runs business, Karmisa. A new, upcoming jewellery brand that has all your go-to statement pieces. With Christmas coming up I thought it was an opportune time to have a chat with Athena…

So, tell us a little bit about the brand Karmisa?
Karmisa is an online jewellery boutique. We specialise in big, luxurious statement pieces. Our jewellery is handpicked and reflects the Karmisa customer, confident and glamorous.

And who is the brain child behind this gorgeous brand?
I’m Athena, I’m from Ireland and living in Dublin. I turned my fashion and jewellery obsession into a career and launched Karmisa in Spring, 2014.

What is your favourite piece of the Karmisa Collection & why?
I have a few favourites depending on what kind of outfit I feel like wearing, sometimes boho, girlie or more edgy. Although my ‘go to’ piece would have to be the gothic rose statement necklace as it toughens up a girlie outfit. It also doubles up as a headpiece as seen on our brand ambassador Stephanie.

What inspires you on a day to day basis to create this unique set of jewellery?
What inspires me when selecting jewellery for Karmisa depends on several things. Seasonal colours and trends but mainly what the Karmisa customer would wear and what I cannot wait to arrive in Karmisa HQ. You have no idea how ridiculously excited I get about jewellery arriving!

So aside from Karmisa, where else do you shop for all your accessory needs?
I don’t have any particular ‘go to’ shop. I find jewellery is an afterthought in a lot of stores and this is mainly why I launched Karmisa, apart from my love of sparkly things! I find a lot of pieces when I’m travelling. I love small independent stores and online stores too, which I usually find through Pinterest, Instagram and Twitter.

Finally, If you could pick 3 things what would you take on a desert Island?
It would have to be my laptop, a Wi-Fi connection and chocolate. Loads of chocolate!

You can follow Karmisa on Twitter & one their website!

  • November DegustaBox Christmas Special | QueenBeady

November DegustaBox Christmas Special | QueenBeady

    DegustaBox1

Yes, it’s that time of the month again where I bring you the scrummy delights of the DegustaBox! In the theme of things this box was Christmas themed & didn’t fail to impress. With a selection of savoury, sweet & drinks there was most definitely something for everyone. I may (or may not!) have eaten all 5 Lindt Chocolate stars (okay, I did. I shared half of one with Mr C!) I have been pleasantly surprised with the amount of items that I have been able to use straight away, unlike other boxes.

    DegustaBox7

Kents Kitchen Fajita Mix RRP £1.85

Mr C & I are HUGE fans of fajitas. It’s a quick and easy meal & relatively healthy to make. Armed with 4 little pots, you just take 1 pot and add it to 400g of chicken. Simple! Get yourselves some wraps, add some creme fraiche & salsa and you have yourself the perfect fajita. We usually buy from the  Old El Paso range. Kent’s Kitchens version was great, but I think could have been a little spicier to rival the other well-known brand. Whilst saying that I did LOVE their Bengal Curry that we had in last months box, read about that here! An impressive & easy tea.

    DegustaBox2

Holy Cow! Mix in Curry RRP £1.69 per pack

We were lucky enough to receive a Korma & Madras from Holy Cow! A nice mild curry and a blow your socks off one too, we started off safe & tried the Korma first as we didn’t want to risk it ahead of our holiday. I have to say it was delicious, it had real coconut tones to it; my favourite. To say it was mild (both Mr C & I like our spice) we were pleasantly surprised at how tasty it was. Mixed with chicken, a bit of pilau rice and a naan we were ready to go. Again, another fantastic, quick & easy tea but not scuppering on the quality.

    DegustaBox6

Lindor My Melting Moment Stars RRP 65p per chocolate

Well, what can I say about these little packets of pure joy? Only amazing things of course. They do exactly what they say on the packet, they melt. They quite literally ooze down your pipes. As you know I’m more of a savoury fiend however, after eating these I could quite easily be swayed to liking sweet items more. Coinciding with the festive theme they are a wonderful design of a star & snowflake, super cute! The smooth taste is perfect for a little treat

    DegustaBox5

Pip Organic Apple Juice RRP £1.50 per drink

As I’m not a huge fan of apple juice I very nearly gave this one a miss, but ever the curious in me decided to give it a go when Mr C cracked one open the other night. I’m surpassed to say it was absolutely delicious. The thing that puts me off apple juice is that it is quite a bitter taste & I’m not the biggest apple fan. However, this drink was lovely and sweet & very refreshing! A little pricey for the size of the bottle I wouldn’t be tempted to buy this unless I was feeling particularly rich. If Pip Organic created a larger bottle for a similar price I’d most definitely buy this regularly rather than a diet coke!

    DegustaBox9

    Kettle Chips RRP £2.19

I was really pleased to see a packet of Kettle Chips in my DegustaBox this month. I love crisps, a self confessed crisp addict & I am happy to try new flavours all day long. We got Salsa & Mesquite (I still need to Google was Mesquite is?!) & they were really yummy. Very moreish, especially as they had a little kick to them. I’d happily munch my way through a packet of these a week but suffice to say I really shouldn’t. This flavour is back by popular demand so no doubt they will go down an absolute storm at the supermarkets!

    DegustaBox3

    Branston Chutney RRP £1.50

Nom, nom, nom sprang to mind when I unwrapped this out of the bubble wrap. I love chutney, be it on a cracker or as a condiment on a home made sandwich! It certainly did not disappoint & was everything you would want from a chutney. I made Mr C some cheese & chutney sandwiches for his packed lunch (yes, I know – so sweet I hear you day!) and licked the knife bone dry afterwards. Great for Christmas, especially on the salmon & crème fraiche bellinis in the morning!

A couple of products that I am yet to try are…

    DegustaBox8

    Montano Cider RRP £2.79

We are huge fruit cider fans in this household so it will be interesting to try this Italian cider! It might transport us back to our romantic honeymoon on the Amalfi Coast!

    DegustaBox4

    Drink Me Chai Latte

This was a little bonus item in the box. I’ve never tried a Chai Latte before so I’m quite excited to try something new, especially as I have been on a ”TeaTox” recently. At only 99 calories a cup, just add water & off you go!

    DegustaBox10

Cool Dawn Recovery Drink RRP £1.50

This herbal detox drink is meant to help a brother out when you are suffering from one stonking headache. A combination of citrus & liquorice flavours (you should just stop at citrus!) there is something in it that makes you magically refreshed after a hard night on the ”liquor” of an alcoholic kind. I might just pack these in the suitcase for our little trip to Egypt where I’m sure a cocktail (or ten!) will be drunk.

So that is the DegustaBox wrapped up in a nutshell for November. What did you enjoy in your monthly subscription box? I had quite a few favourites! So, if you’d like to try it for yourself and have a monthly box full of foody surprises head over to their website & enter TW7HL for a £3 discount – click here! Why not follow them on Twitter or Facebook too! Pinnacle Moments in Blogging | QueenBeady

    Grazia Daily

Do you ever ask yourself ”what is the best thing about blogging?” or ”what am I most proud of on my blog?” I suppose for me when I first got a few subscribers who would take time out of their own day to comment on my blog. That’s pretty neat. Then you start hitting milestones on BlogLovin, Twitter and Blog Subscribers. You watch the numbers increase day by day & it’s pretty cool that someone is interested in what you have to say. I don’t think it is something I’ll ever get over.

Next thing you know, PR companies & brands are contacting YOU directly asking if you’d like to try out new products/clothes/food and more because they feel your opinion matters and they trust YOU to do a good job. It’s a pretty surreal thing for just a ”hobby.”

But, then you get on to the big boys. People who want to feature YOU on their own blog or their own website. To me it’s a total ”WOW” moment. Not least when I found out that my Pinterest & Blog had been featured on none other than Grazia Daily as one of 5 pinners to follow for NYE inspiration. I’m a huge fan of pinterest (as you all probably know!) and could spend hours whiling away the time, with a hot mug of tea & my knee high socks on just scrolling through the pretty images that appear. I couldn’t believe it when I saw the tweet pop up that I had been featured in such a well-known fashion magazine. It’s an extraordinary feeling.

It’s only a short blog post, but, I have had a profound moment. I genuinely feel that my blog is going in a direction I want it to. I have all my social media platforms supporting the blog just as well & I am so happy in the knowledge that I can go in to 2015 with a massive grin on my face down to the amazing opportunities that my blog is giving me.

Little old me is doing just fine & I am so so so so happy.
