You may have realised (although, I’d be a total ass to assume you had, so maybe you haven’t) that this blog has fallen by the way side (yet again.) It’s not for the want of trying to give it the time it truly deserves but it’s the fitting it in that’s becoming the chore. When life takes over, I generally find it so hard to juggle everything. Work, personal and social time, my blogging and all the social media that comes with it, the micro blogging on Instagram, walking my dog, exercising, feeding myself. All things (and more!) that I so desperately want to fit in to each day. But, I need more than 24 hours in a day to do it all. And feel human after it all.

These photos were taken a month ago. A whole month has passed by with this sitting in my drafts, waiting for words to be added to it. I just haven’t had a second to myself to really sit down and write the words that need to go for it.

Admitting that I’m struggling with everything going on in my life at the moment isn’t a weakness. I haven’t broken down crying, I haven’t had a meltdown. Far from it. I just knew a lot sooner this time that something had to give. I noticed the signs, no desire to work out, feeling tired, even reaching towards alcohol more at home (which is something I don’t ever really do!) – the signs were all there that I needed to slow down.

My thrice daily posts on Instagram, fell to one, then to one every few days and then boom, once a week. I couldn’t keep up. I had nothing exciting to say to world other than, “hey look at me, works busy, like really busy. Not sure when I’m gonna stop to take breath but hey, I’m busy.” – no-one needs to see, hear or read about something so mundane, so I bit the bullet and just had to take a break.

There haven’t been many tweets and it looks like I’m being rude when I don’t reply instantly like I used to. Notifications have just gone off and I have to prioritise my work over that. It’s simple.

Sometimes, mental health can look to some as a weakness. It’s not. It’s a chemical reaction. It’s all in the science. What I need during these times are friends who understand that my mind can only process a certain amount of things at once and that weekly dinners & drinks, long phone calls might just have to go out of the window every once in a while. And it’s great, that luckily I have friends who completely understand that. A little text every once in a while to check in is lovely. It shows you have friends who do care about you, but know that there’s not a huge amount of brain capacity that can sit texting/calling all day when life get’s busy. Sometimes it’s the kind gestures, sending a unique card & a little handwritten message from MoonpigΒ can really let those who struggle know that you are there for them every step of the way.

It’s not only work that is taking a vast amount of time at the moment, I’ve finally bitten the bullet and cracked on with one of my “30 by 30” goals and that’s that I haveΒ started myΒ driving lessons. And update: they aren’t going as horrifically bad as I thought they would be. I have a really patient, female instructor who gives great advice and instils me with more confidence to be good at it. Fingers crossed I’ll be tootling along before spring is out and I can actually start living a more “free life” without relying on everyone else / public transport.

My blog has fallen by the way-side, it does make me sad because writing and curating beautiful images are what I enjoy and live for. I know it might seem like I’m lost and a little afraid of taking on too much but I am here to be found. Don’t be afraid to cut something down if you feel overwhelmed. Give yourself that well-earned rest from whatever it is and come back feeling more revitalised than ever.

I love your boots and that jumper/shirt combo is such a lovely classic look! I totally get what you mean, it’s not a weakness at all and if you need to take a step back it’s much better to just do that rather than completely run yourself into the ground. I used to try and post three times a week, I’ve recently cut that to two and felt so much better and like a weight has been lifted. I think we all just need to cut ourselves some slack!

      Hey Amy,

Thank you so much – it was a cosy outfit for a winter’s day!

I’m glad you agree, it takes a strong person to say, “you know what? I can’t do all this now.” – I’m starting to feel a lot better πŸ™‚

Sometimes you just need a break, to get some inspiration and have some time for yourself! No point making content on little time that you’re not going to be happy with too. Great outfit for this time of year, I love the coat! Good luck with all your goals, and the driving – I can’t wait to start mine!

      Hi Yasmin,

You’re right, you’ve hit the nail on the head. Now I’ve taken a step back, I’m more full of ambition again! I really hope I ace some of those goals, especially driving!

Woo driving lessons! They’re so exciting and once you have passed it’s amazing, good luck lovely! Sometimes somethings got to give and the great thing about blogging is it’ll still be here when you’re ready to add it back in again – other life things sometimes just take priority and that’s fine! I know right? I’m so excited to be able to get on the road and no my thang! You’re right, blogging will always be here and I just had to take that time out. Thanks for sticking around.

God I relate so much to this ❀️ I wrote something similar as I’ve been feeling the exact same lately! I don’t feel lost, just really behind… I seem to be stuck in the rut of planning things but when it comes down to doing it I have zero motivation and nothing to say to the world. A break/change in your routine is always needed, your blog/readers aren’t going anywhere either xxxx

Such an important post poppet and I agree. I’m on the fringes of burnout, almost a delayed reaction to my shit 2016 and whilst posts have gone out, it’s only because they were already pre-scheduled.

Pressing pause and doing you is the best thing you can do for your health. People that matter understand, and being able to visibily say this will mean so much to your readers! Just know that everyone is here whenever and for whatever you need! πŸ’–

Oh no. I do hope 2017 is kinder! Being able to say “I’m sorry, I can’t continue.” is strong, you are such a sweetheart & deserve everything nice to come your way.

I had noticed your change in amount of posts, but I mean that in the most complimentary rather than pulling you up way of course! I’m always so impressed that bloggers (with none blogging full time jobs) can fit any more than one a week in – and I’m back at having a bloody good go at writing my own again and wow, it is hard to find the extra time to just try to curate the habit – let alone a good load of writing!
I think taking on EVERYTHING is overrated – defo cut back where you can.
I’m interested in what you do for a living – can I ask? I’m just nosey, but I hope it eases a little soon for you, so you can get all the beautiful balance of life for yourself once more xx

      Hi Holly

Oh bless you, of course you don’t mean that in horrible way at all. It’s kinda nice to know when your readers realise that you are taking a bit of time out. It’s a nice mutual respect for one another. So thank you.

I work in Experiential Marketing & Events, lots of deadlines, lots of changing minds, schedules etc. I could go on! What is it that you do?

I too have felt the pressure to try and keep up with everything. If I don’t post once per day on Instagram, my following drops. I can’t keep up with bloggers in my pods who share Instagram/Facebook/Twitter posts several times a day. I took a step back from blogging and I’ve gone down to once per week, even though I’d love to post more. I think you’re raising an issue here that we all feel, but also to know that it is OK too. Good luck with your driving lessons <3 xx

Oh bless you, sometimes blogging and all its various forms of social media are just so hard to keep going! I hope other people read it and take note that is okay to take step back, ESPECIALLY, if it isn’t your full time job. Keep doing what you are doing – I love your insta feed so girl, you best not be losing followers πŸ˜‰

Great post and so relatable! We’ve all been there and will continue too. It’s an up and down ride this life!
However, as I always say when people have ‘breaks’ or as I like to say, getting on with reality, there’s no apologies needed. We’re all human and as you say, it’s not a weakness to back down, it’s actually the opposite in a good way. It’s been switched on and knowing when step away. The smarter choice.
Your true friends will be there, blog/insta or not. You need to do it for yourself. πŸ™‚

Ps – This is a fab outfit! The tones on you are just perfect! πŸ™‚

This is a great post – I recently just started blogging again after having a break because I couldn’t juggle everything at once and to be honest, I didn’t have anything valuable to share or there were things that I just didn’t want to share! Taking a break is the best thing you can do so you can juggle and prioritise your life x

    1. QueenBeady Avatar

You gotta do, what you gotta do and if that means taking a break then that is what you must do. And I totally get you. Writing about getting out of bed, heading to work, coming home, eating tea & going to bed would not make for some interesting reading, ha!

Honestly, there are so many of us feeling like this. It’s crazy how detrimental all of this can be to our health. And you’re right – it’s not a weakness at all, it’s great that you’re saying it out loud. So what if those pictures have been there for a month, we all still appreciate them now. Take time where you need. No point giving yourself a breakdown just for a blog. You’re awesome and it sounds like you’ve got lots of great things going on outside of here so cherish those πŸ™‚ xx

    1. QueenBeady Avatar

So, so, so, soooo many bloggers feel this way. I have no idea what it is, but it could be a number of things but who knows? The blogging world is filled with so many people, we all want to strive for perfection on all platforms and it’s physically draining when life isn’t as “exciting” – thank you lovey.
