Feelin’ Sassy with all my Perfect Imperfections | QueenBeady

WHO DO I THINK I AM GABRIELLE

Jacket H&M | Top H&M | Neckerchief ASOS | Belt New Look | Jeans Warehouse | Heels New Look | Bag Bought in Italy | Photography Matt McCormick

I saw something on Facebook the other day that quite frankly, pissed me off. Okay, maybe that is a strong way of explaining my feelings. First it pissed me off, then it made me sad, then it made me question society. All these emotions came from a post that kinda went like this “Omg I’m a size 12 now. I’m so fat!” Whilst I really hope that the person can work on loving her body, it just made me so sad that we are conditioned to believe we should be perfect all the time. Guys, you know what I’m probably at my heaviest (albeit not that heavy at all) and yet I’m still feelin’ sassy with all my perfect imperfections.

ASOS Neckerchief

I’m not here to preach about how you should love yourself more, most of us look at our bodies and can point out the million and one things about ourselves that we hate and very rarely share what we do love. Media has told us time and time again what the perfect body should be and it’s generally through the clever art of photoshop. I was scrolling through the images that Matt McCormick took of me the last time we worked together. I’d constantly said “Oh my god, can you see my rolls? My rolls are hanging out!” pretty much between every shot he took of me in this outfit.

And now after much thought & deliberation with myself, when they landed in my inbox & I looked at them, I don’t think “Oh my goodness, you are so fat Bee!” I see a happy, confident woman, smiling and having a great time. So shoot me?

I’m a curvy gal now. I grew up looking like a beanpole so when I started developing lumps and bumps it was a huge shock to the system. My weight rollercoasters all the time, but recently I’ve struggled to shift it. I know it’s because I sit on my bum all day and exercise irregularly. I also like big portions but slowly I’m working on that, I love food (a little bit too much!) I know I could lose a little weight, of course, but I know that right now I feel sassy, I feel confident & I am pretty happy. Surely that is the best way to be, rather than getting hung up on numbers on a scale or on clothing labels?

It’s not just my weight I have a love/hate relationship with, my honker is something else I humongously dislike. It has a massive kink in it and I have a terrible profile from the side. I hate, hate, hate it. Plus, it’s something that’s always been pointed out to me and not in the most positive of ways.

WOAH. Hang on a minute there, Bee. This sounds like a pity party! What about all the things that I do love about myself? Seeing past the nose and the wonky tits I don’t concentrate on that. I see the big smile beaming from my face. The look in my eye that says “I don’t give a f, I’m working it.”

My confidence levels yo-yo and quite clearly at the moment, I’m on a high, ask me again in two weeks & I’ll probably tell you to “get stuffed & look at those rabbit teeth in that mouth of mine!” ‘cos y’know, periods and all that but I’d love it for every time someone says they hate something about themselves, we reply with something that we love about them. Wouldn’t that be the morale boost as a nation, we need?

Okay, okay. I promise I’ll stop preaching now. Everyone has the right to love or hate their body, but I want to spread more positivity out there about body confidence. If you want to diet, do it! If you want to start a pilates class, do it! If you want to eat a bar of chocolate & not feel guilty, do it! I want you to do it & I want you to feel sassy and confident and happy, it might not be with every inch of yourself, because hey, if we were perfect we wouldn’t be unique.

Next time someone is feeling a little low or makes a comment about themselves that is negative, why not throw a little compliment their way. It might just make their day.

Thank you Kate. Sometimes we do need to say “heck, I love my eyes” or “I love my legs” – lets be proud of what our Mamma’s gave us 😉

Oh these pictures are as gorgeous as the brilliantly empowering words that go with them! You look fantastic, bright and shiny.
Even now at 32 (gulp) I have those days where I pity party myself into a funk, getting much much better at telling myself to focus on the good and just let the stuff I can’t change go off into the wind.
    Really love this Bea.

Oh Michelle, these words mean so much to me. When I write I want to reach out to people, I don’t want it to just be all about an outfit, I want to be purposeful. I think we all have days like that, it’s normal. As long as we can get on with it eventually. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Doh, Sophie! You really do know how to make a girl blush. Thank you, I just wanna spread positivity, it makes me so sad that still in this day & age we are meant to look a certain way to be portrayed as “beautiful” or “perfect” – it really annoys me goddammit! Ha!

First off, you are not at all fat! And frankly, you are killing it right now! That sass is showing through in all sorts of ways and you look fantastic! I just need to find a little bit of that in time for my wedding day – I want to have a smile as big as yours in these (also amazing) pics. I am sure I will do – just too much work at the minute! And we all have our ‘noses’ – mine is my wonky eyebrows – one is way higher than the other, which makes buying sunglasses impossible, though it is a good excuse to always wear giant super-glam ones, so maybe not a bad thing. But I can’t stand to look at my face straight on, I feel like one side of it is squashed almost, because my eye is smaller too. 🙁 But even though it is so obvious to me, it was a year before my fiance noticed it and even then only because I pointed it out, so maybe it’s not as big a deal as I feel it is. Maybe I should stop caring. One day I probably will! xx

Oh babe, I know I’m not “fat” per-say but it’s one of those things, where you wish you could love a lump or bump or two (or ten!) however, there is an upside to this story & I do feel like I’m killing it. I’m working hard and I feel so motivated at the moment to really keep this blog going and hopefully on to bigger and better things!
Trust me, you will find that glow on your wedding day (although I think you’ve already got it!) because you will be so happy, so elevated on your big day it will shine!

This post is so friggin’ important and true. Like you said, it should be how we feel on the inside, how we feel mentally and not what we actually look like, and what the scales tell us. And like Holly said – your confidence does shine through in these pictures!

    And guuuuuurl, you look gorgeous.

YAYAYAYAY! I want people to feel like this too, I want them to be able to think of at least one nice thing about them when they torture themselves with the negatives. It makes me sad. Thank you – I really feel so happy at the moment, except I’m feeling very dizzy today – not well at all 🙁 so I hope I get better this weekend!

You’re not fat at all, silly. BUT SASSY, THAT YOU AREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE. I wonder how old the girl was who said she was fat at a size 12 though, because I know when I was 19 I couldn’t carry a size 12 well but now that I’m older can.

Dohhh, girl. I got a lil chunk but I’m okay with that, (now!) and she is a year or two younger than me, so probs 24ish? It just makes me sad. A number shouldn’t define you! Ps. You a sassy Sassperilla too!

You look absolutely stunning Bee!! I know how it feels to have been very tiny and then suddenly get curves. I’m having a bit of a hard time with it at the moment if I’m honest! Keep on being sassy. Lauren xx

    1. QueenBeady Avatar

Lauren, thank you. The kind comments about this post have been phenomenal! Curves at first are scary, different and pretty hard to deal with. But, once I started to accept that my body is starting to morph in to one that nature intended then I started to accept it a little more. Don’t get me wrong, there are days where I could rip every inch of fat off my body but slowly I’m getting there, I hope you do too.
