Exploring Albert Docks & The Beatles Story, Liverpool | QueenBeady

Albert Dock 4

For music lovers across the globe, there is one band that is synonymous for everyone a like. A band that was catapulted in to fame very quickly, I would look at you in sheer disbelief if you didn’t know this band. The Beatles. The back bone of Liverpudlian culture, aside from the Mersey Tunnel and the Titanic.

After recently enjoying a wonderful trip courtesy of Travelodge UK (you can read about our stay here!) we decided that there was so much we wanted to do, but at the top of the list was to visit The Beatles Story on Albert Docks.

Set in the towering, red brick buildings of the docks, this place is tucked away but follow the masses and you will stumble upon it. We had been to it’s sister museum the day before which was all about the ‘’British Invasion’’ which was good, but we were ready to get to the grit and learn more about one of Mr C’s & I’s favourite bands. At only £14.95 per person, this gives you access to both museums which I think is great value for money and included in the cost is a guided tour (sadly mine didn’t work, so I just read the little signs instead) luckily as we had tickets from the day before we got to queue jump, which was a large blessing as the queue had gotten rather long by the time we had arrived.

It was great to see some of the bands very own pieces of kit. Clothes, instruments, accessories, you name it this place had hoards of the vintage memorabilia. It was truly fascinating. Seeing George’s first guitar was brilliant. He was my Nana’s favourite!

I loved all the old photography of the band as they struck fame. That typical Mod phase, suited and booted but not before you rode off in to the sunset on a Vespa! It made me wonder how I would have captured the band had I had the chance back in the 1960’s? Quite honestly, they were captured perfectly.

I’m a bit of a fruit loop, my husband and family will back that up for me. I’m a huge fan of ‘’Miniature Villages’’ or any museum that recreates a scene. I don’t know why, my favourite thing as a child was imaginary play so this probably has something to do with it. I’m going off track but it brings me to my point that there were lots of various replica’s of places/scenes that the Beatles had been to and found their global success from. One being the Cavern Club, a dingy little hole but girls would queue up for days to catch a glimpse of the boys before their gigs. I almost felt like it was the real deal!

The museum took your right from their Mod days, right through to their iconic ‘’hippy trippy’’ phase of the 70’s. We even got to board the Yellow Submarine and listen to the sounds of Sergeant Pepper’s Lonely Heart Club Band album too. It was such a contrast from the black & white era, thrusting themselves right in to Technicolor. And what a bright, visually pleasing time it was.

Towards the end of the tour it began a more poignant setting. It was about how the lad’s had all parted ways and they became individuals heading in different directions. It was interesting to read about the demise of the band, I didn’t know until then that it was Paul McCartney’s doing. It took a few years for them to disband with plenty of persistence from Paul.

What I do know is that this fabulously fun & care-free band paved the way for many more UK bands to global success and created inspiration all around the world.

Have you ever been to The Beatles Story? Are you a Beatles fan? I’d love to hear what your favourite song is! I love ‘’Paperback Writer’’, ‘’Twist & Shout’’ and ‘’Come Together’’ to name but a few.

Love this! I love the Albert Docks so so much – I did the Liverpool marathon last year and it started right next to The Beatles Story and they blared their music as we ran past 🙂

It was brilliant Danielle, the fact it was £14.95 was great. You would’ve paid more for it & the fact you get entry to both museums is fab.
