    I’ve inadvertently been coined a travel blogger, probably because 90% of my content now relates to travel topics – either UK or international. Either way, travel has fundamentally been the one constant in my life since I decided to leave my sixth form college all those years ago and delve in to the travel industry as a profession back in 2008. It seems such a long time ago that my 17 year old self decided that it was the path I was going to take and ultimately set my soul on fire.

    I am ever so proud to call York my hometown. Born and bred in this city, I beam when I tell someone this little piece of news.

    It’s steeped in so much rich history that it’s hard not to get lost down cobbled streets and find yourself in old castles and towers that are within a few hundred yards of one another. It’s so different to your usual UK city break because you feel like you’ve stepped back in time ever so slightly, it provides that sort of escapism I think we all need from time to time.

    With bars, hotels and more popping up all over the place I wanted to let you in on some of the best kept secrets that are hidden behind those city walls!

    A COSY, COUNTRYSIDE B&B IN YORKSHIRE: THE RED LION MANOR HOUSE, BURNSALL

    If I ever mention The Red Lion in Burnsall in passing, it is always met with a big grin and a simple – “oh gosh, I love it there.”

    If you’re from Yorkshire you’re most likely to have parked up near the green, trudged along the river that runs along the hotel and had a picnic and ice cream with your family on a hot, summers day. It’s one of those unspoilt spots in the area and despite being popular, never loses its charm. It’s a firm favourite and a day out that just keeps on giving!

    We found ourselves staying over for the night as we had a family wedding in December – it was the perfect opportunity to stay the night and enjoy the Yorkshire Dales (one of our fave spots in the region!)

    The mind boggles when people yearn for the city life, the hustle and bustle of a busy town, the unlimited and endless things you can do. I however, am completely, 100% all about switching off and being away from it all. There’s something pretty special about being able to get out in nature and strip back everything and just get back to basics. I learnt a lot about myself when we visited the North Star Club in 2017 and how I think I’d be pretty happy in my own little hut in the middle of a forest.     It’s the small hotel chain that was (and still is) hot on everyone’s lips in 2018. People are flocking here just for the sake of visiting the hotel and not the aim of the trip being explore the beautiful city of Paris.

    And, dare I say it, rightly so!

    It’s an interiors heaven, an influencers dream hotel and any cocktail lovers perfect spot for a tipple. This hotel has it all. And if you didn’t already know which hotel I’m talking about, it’s The Hoxton Hotel, Paris.
