To say we only went to Mexico for a week we managed to pack in a lot of sightseeing. One of the top things we wanted to do was go visiting Tulum, Mexico. We’d been told that the local buses ran every 3 minutes outside the hotel and for a mere 35 peso’s each and 20 minute journey up the road we would reach Tulum. Sadly, our rep told us that the best time to go would be 4pm as it would be quieter and less hot but as we arrived the first time around 4.20pm we were told that the gates were shut and last entry had already been. Feeling a little deflated we had a beer in the local bar and then set back off home reluctantly, but with a plan to get up early the next day and try again.

    Valladolid Street

I’m not going to lie to you, this post isn’t going to be filled with many words, it’s mainly about the beautiful street scenes I managed to capture whilst we stopped for a whistle stop tour of Valladolid, Mexico, after visiting the fascinating Chichen Itza and the Hubiku Cenote (click the links to read more!). It was a chance for us to have a stretch during our three hour trip back to the hotel and just enough time to get ourselves a coconut ice cream from one of the cutest ice cream bicycles from the town square. It was great to finally see a fully functional, working town in Mexico.

    Wishing Well Hubiku

You may have read about our tour of Chichen Itza in my last Mexico blog post, so I see you are hungry for more. Part deux of this little trip, you might say? Okay, okay, they speak Spanish over there not French, but you catch my drift. As part of our Chichen Wonders tour with Thomson Holidays we also got to visit two more places, one of which was Hubiku, home to the popular Hubiku Cenote & the Tequila Museum, Mexico. It was in the mad heat of the day and after a whistle stop tour of the buffet dinner at Kin Restaurant, it was time to jump in to the cool waters of this natural sink hole.

    Chichen Itza

To say I fell in love with Mexico would be an understatement. We are talking about being head over heels, lustful affair with the god darn country. She is a beautiful place. From the smiling people you meet on every corner she greets you with, to the paradise-like, palm tree laden white shores that allow you to lay back and pretty much forget every bit of trouble you may have back home – I think I have found a little piece of heaven on the Riviera Maya, but then again I know that it isn’t a secret. Venture outside of the hotels and you get a glimpse in to the Mayan culture that’s hidden beyond the jungle. When creating a list of top things we would like to do when visiting Mexico in our very short week, Chichen Itza was the top of the list to explore.
