STYLE YOUR HOUSE ON A BUDGET* | QUEENBEADY

Processed with VSCO with hb2 preset

I often look at my house, and as much as I love it, I get pretty frustrated with it. We live in a reasonable 2 up/2 down with a sizeable garden which we are forever grateful for. But for the most part, I feel like we haven’t really made it a “home” in all the of the 7 years of being there. Often, I prefer to spend money on meals out and going on holidays. Which is when I came to the realisation that I spend money on doing things that don’t involve staying in our house and that really needs to change.

I think everyone needs a little bit of “Hygge” in their life. It’s a way of life that has been fully embraced by the UK over the last few months, this Danish concept roughly translates to “cosiness” within ones home and life. It’s a term that is definitely one I want to embrace, especially through the winter months when the weather becomes significantly cooler. Being snug is a top priority. One way that can drastically change a home in to ultimate comfort is by lighting several scented candles (heart eyed emojis all round) and making the house smell nice in the process too. This oriental spice & cherry blossom candle from The English Soap Company is no exception to the rule.

I want to completely overhaul my bedroom at the moment. Scratch that, I want to overhaul my whole house. With the likes of pinterest I am constantly lusting after aesthetically pleasing, minimalistic, black and white living. I decided that I need to start creating a little bit inspiration for myself and where better to do that, than on my blog. Am I right? I adore the muted tones of grey and whilst a rather dull colour it can lift the starkness of a white room. I think I would maybe I’d add a pop of colour to break it up too!

    Slippers Wyndors

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas in the Clayton residence. This Sunday after a very busy (and slightly hungover) weekend we decided it was time to get the Christmas tree out of the attic and put it up. I have to admit despite various “Christmas” outings I still haven’t felt in the mood. But, Sunday was the day to do it. I decided to pull myself together, so I put on these gorgeous slippers from Wynsor Shoes, put the kettle on and got the decs out to have a super festive afternoon.

  • The obligatory round-up of 2013!

2013 you have most definitely been an interesting one. I’ve seen quite a lot of things this year, some beautiful & some not so kind. I can certainly say (as cliché as it may sound) one helluva rollercoaster.

January is always a tough one for me, I work every hour god sends and work full weekends to keep on top of the travelling wanderlusters. It is always our busiest time of the year for holiday bookings and this year was no exception. January feels a lifetime ago now that this year is nearly over & done with. Nothing exciting ever happens except for our annual meal out for my Mama’s birthday which was always a lovely affair. This year was no exception & we enjoyed a meal at our favourite pub www.thefoxandhoundswalton.com where the food is always delicious. If you are in the area I highly recommend it, so much so, we have asked them to do the catering for our impending wedding day! We also booked our wedding day with the Church & we couldn’t have been happier that everything was set in stone for what will be our most magical day.

February is again, a very slow month for us. I still end up working weekends. Whilst February is the month of love, James & I are never ones for celebrating Valentines Day (We are Vday Scrooges!) we actually went all out & I created a steak dinner with a baked cake delight for pudding. He did the obligatory flowers & prosecco which certainly did not disappoint.

March I lived for my week off in March. End. March sadly saw my Grandads first illness and was in hospital for a week or so. I’d never seen my Grandad ill so it was really hard to take it in, luckily he was home but there was a huge difference in him. I only hoped that he would get back to himself very soon. (more…)
