If there is one thing in life that I thoroughly recommend that anyone do, it would be simple. Travel. T R A V E L. Travel close to home, head across the waters, but make sure you travel outside of your own little bubble. For me, it gave me so much more confidence. I’m not talking about quitting my job and travelling the world (but lets face it, given the choice I think I know I would definitely pack up & go.) I’m just talking about getting on a plane for a weekend, a week or even two and exploring lands that you never normally would. I’ve got a run down of some of the places that I am dying to travel to and ClickStay makes it easier than ever to search for accommodation too.

    Tea7

I’ll be honest, this week has been pretty boring so I’ll try make this post as best as I possibly can. It’s also been pretty painful too, on Friday I opened my mouth to take a nibble on some crackers and my jaw went in to complete spasm mode. My left jaw swelled up so much so that I could easily compare myself to Quagmire from Family Guy. It worsened every time I ate so it was just soup for me. Sometimes life really is just “ordinary” and whilst I’d love to say I hate it, sometimes it’s necessary to just have a rather dull week. That is life as working adult, isn’t it? So without me sounding too much of a “Neggy Nelly” in what’s meant to be an uplifting post I’ll get straight too it. So let’s get in to part 3 of “Mindfulness Monday” shall we?

    Flowers in Lobby

When an email lands in your inbox inviting you to come & try out a luxury hotel, the silly thing to do would be say no. So thank goodness I didn’t. I love travelling abroad as you’ll see from previous posts but I also love a long weekend away in the UK too. I had the pleasure of visiting the Hotel La Tour, Birmingham last weekend to review what the place had to offer. Now, I’ll be completely honest I wasn’t really taken with Birmingham itself (except of course, FOUR FLOORS OF SELFRIDGES, am I right?) It was a good two hour and a bit hours drive so we were starved. We picked up our first ever Five Guys, which in itself was worth the effort.

    Glass Jars

I hate to sound smug and be that guy, but this whole “mindfulness” thing is working out for me. Never have I felt so “in the now” and enjoying each day. I have hardly thought about the weekend (and we had a jam packed weekend away to look forward to!) that I actually feel like each day really is bringing me something meaningful, despite having to get up for work each day. I was so skeptical of how it would work for me, but it genuinely has made me feel wonderful. I read Sophie’s blog about “self diagnosing anxiety” – I am the same, and whilst I’ve never been to the docs about it, I know hand on heart it is something I have and do have to deal with on a daily basis. The moment my chest tightens and I struggle to take controlled breaths because of one quick, irrational thought I’d feel sick. Now, I take a moment, breath in and out and really concentrate on a positive thought. I can’t tell you how much that has helped me.

    Brunch at Ox Club Leeds

Going in to 2016 I didn’t make any New Years resolutions, instead I just said to myself “you need to get to happy & healthy” – so I pondered on how I could enhance my life, I’m slowly making slight changes to my diet again and I am looking to return to the gym (ASAP) but how on earth do I work on being happy? Now it seems such a silly question but I thought about it, I am happy. I enjoy life. But, what I think I meant to say was “appreciate being happy.” When I read Erin Louise Hunts blog post on apps to help with any goals or resolutions an app called “Mindfulness” popped out. I’ve heard a lot of people bleat on about this term & literally did not have a clue what on earth it was.

Mindfulness is a mental state achieved by focusing one’s awareness on the present moment, while calmly acknowledging and accepting feelings, thoughts, and bodily sensations.
