AM I ADULTING #1 + COUNTRY LIVING CHRISTMAS FAIR TICKET GIVEAWAY | QUEENBEADY

Christmas Tree Decorations

I start these things you know, with the hashtag, #1. I never get further than the first one. But there’s something about this idea that just stuck with me. Am I adulting? I question this pretty much every day of my life so of course, there should “theoretically” be plenty to talk about each week. It’s also a little bit more anecdotal, a little glimpse in to how my brain works and all the crazy crap that runs through it on a daily basis. (Read: My brain is ridiculous and I need someone else to listen to the bat shit cray cray stuff it thinks up.)

It started last year, the ninth year of putting up a sparse, bedraggled, cheap looking Christmas tree. You know the ones, where you can see right through it because it has only 3 branches on each layer. At £7 for a 5ft Christmas tree it seemed like the perfect fit for our first living room. Money was tight but we were going to have our very first Christmas tree in our first home. I had to. Equipped with about 10 baubles, it was our first Christmas tree and it was ours. It did the job. It made me happy that we had a little bit of festivity in our home. With each year, I’d buy more and more ornaments making it look a little bit fuller but it still looked pretty sorry for itself because you now couldn’t see the tree at all for all the glitter and sparkle covering it.

You know, I really do wish I was one of those “got my shit together” adults who go out every year on a family day out to go spend £75 on a real, Nordic, pine tree that sits in the vestibule of the house, covered in candy canes and pretty little stockings beside it. Sadly I’m not one of those types so I needed to come up with a new plan. We couldn’t go on anymore pretending that our current “stump” was going the distance any longer. So, finally I caved. I looked at my Christmas tree and whilst it had lots of lovely baubles on it was time, 2015 was going to be the last time that tree stood in our living room. I’d made my mind up. It was time to say goodbye to ye olde faithful.

We headed to B&Q (the most adultiest adulty shop of them all) at the weekend to go look at work surfaces for our brand new kitchen (did I tell you I’m an adult now?) and on entering the store we were blinded greeted with their festive displays. Humongous trees, lights everywhere and singing polar bears. My eyes lit up, it was just so Christmassy. I couldn’t help but get drawn in by the bright lights and there it was standing before me,  a 6ft fully branched tree that was going to fit right in to our cosy living room! It was £24 (knocked down from £36 in the Black Friday sales – hallelujah for American culture) and it was coming home with us. I felt smug. I was finally buying a proper adult Christmas tree. I’ve finally adulted and bought a tree that cost more than 75p (okay, okay, slight exaggeration) now it’s just the age old question of, when do I put it up?

Have you got your Christmas tree up? Did buying your first second tree make you feel Country Living Christmas Fair in Harrogate this weekend!

I know right? How on earth I get through each day is more of a blessing that a curse because I can never quite believe how much I am adulating.
I’m putting my tree up on the 1st December! I cannot wait. Will you be getting in fully-fledged Christmas mode when you are back?

Ooh, that is an amazing price. I’ve always had real, but wtf – £75?! Who pays that?! Where do they go?! Since I am usually doing loads of house DIY and whatnot in the run up to Christmas and it always seems too dirty to get a tree, we wait until a week before Christmas to put it up. This means the massive real ones are £10, or even £5, which totally makes it worth waiting a couple of weeks in my book! But I am not sure how I will feel when my house is done and clean and I’m desperate to put up a tree the last weekend of November. If they cost £75, I’d better start saving!! :-O xx

I know, they are crazy expensive (I could have plucked that from the air though? HA!) Aww that’s a really good cost effective way of doing it, do you not wish you could have your tree up a little earlier though?

Haha, aw Bee, I believe your back, in terms of blogging and wit.
Love this post and look forward to others to come.. Even at 32 I could do with some adulating tips.lol (or just share stories.lol) :p
We’ve always got a real tree.. (when I say we I mean my parents have, from my childhood all the way till 2012) My husband and I, being in rented, had a small 4ft fake tree of ‘it’ll do’ dream, but I’ve always longed for the ‘perfect’ tree. Real tree hating with my mum was always fun.. She knew exactly what she wanted.. it had to be bushy and green, no signs of being dead and a good top for the angel.. my dad on the other hand just stood and did his job of carrying it to the car.lol Since being in our house, (my husband, toddler and I) we got our lovely 6ft fake tree from B&Q and I love it. (I just buy the Yankee Christmas Tree candle to burn for the smell, as I love it!)
Our tree is going up on Thurs. Although it always takes great strength not to put it up in November, Christmas for us starts on the 1st. My birthday being the 15th December, my parents used to wait till the 16th to put the tree up, as to keep my birthday separate. 🙂
I can;t wait to see your tree! 🙂

Oh! My nana & granddad used to get a real one and I instantly regret that I didn’t appreciate it more. I love the idea of getting the Christmas tree yankee candle burner! I might have to get myself one #fakeittillyoumakeit LOL!

Same here, well, I am aiming for Thursday. Need to rally up the husband to get in to the attic for the baubles / decs!

Share a photo when it’s up!

Haha! It’s such an amusing topic for me, I just don’t understand how we work the world in such a short space of time, ha! I’ll check it out.

I often wonder if I’m adulting. And, I think, most of the time I’m not. Haha. Our Christmas tree was a gift, I think, passed down from my mum or future MIL, along with lots of ornaments. I haven’t put it up since we got a cat though, because last year he ate some of it and got sick and cost me money at the vets for an anti-sickness jab. Which I did not need right before Christmas, but I wouldn’t let him be ill. So I’m too scared to put the tree back up now! Haha. But I know lots of people already have theirs up. Personally I stick to the 12 days rule – 12 days before, 12 days after. x http://www.aimeeraindropwrites.co.uk x

Oh no! Funnily enough, I have a post coming next week about keeping your pets safe at this time of year with all the new sights and sounds, it might come in handy.
We put ours up last night, seen as its December now, I feel it’s acceptable. Haha!

I’ll admit, mine went up well over a week ago (ok, closer to two!)
I’d LOVE one of those massive, beautifully decorated trees. But I have children, so our tree essentially looks like we got a box of tinsel and just threw it at the tree… which is more or less what happened!

Haha, could you just not resist?! Same here. We can dream can’t we?
