I turned 27 about 3 weeks ago (maybe a little more when this post goes live) and I never really acknowledged it. That being because I was on a sales training course in London and spent 2 hours of my life on a train back. We celebrated with a mucky macca’s in on a motorway service station with the dimmed lights on. I’m so rock & roll. I let it pass by really without a thought. But now as time is going on and I’m now royally in my “late twenties” I can’t help but reflect on what I have achieved and what I want from life.

I had a mini breakdown when I turned 25, it was a real turning point for me and whilst I’ve done really grown up things like get married and buy a house I feel like I’ve really just muddled along in those aspects. You kinda feel like you are playing at being “grown ups” like you did when you were in year 1 at school. I can hear it now, “I’ll be the Mummy, you can be the Daddy and you be the pet dog.” (Tell me it wasn’t just me?) We are all in such a rush to grow up that we don’t even realise it is happening right before our eyes.

I’d be a rich woman if I got a £1 coin for every time said to me “Ooh, you’ll be thirty soon!” – to which I’m mentally screaming “JESUS CHRIST SUSAN, LET ME HAVE THOSE THREE YEARS BETWEEN 27 AND 30 PLEASE.” But, I still don’t quite know how I got to 27? I mean wow, time has flown. I’ve been married 2 and a half years. We’ve lived in our house over six years and I’ve been in the “career changing” job for nearly 3 years. How did it all happen?

I have decided that I want to saviour every second. We lead such busy lives that I forget to really relish in every day moments, blink and I’ve missed it all and then were on to the next thing. I’m going to make myself a little bucket list, 30 things to do in 3 years. I think that sounds pretty reasonable and something that can definitely be achieved without feeling too much pressure (something I don’t quite deal with well!) So without further ado, here I go…

1. Buy myself a designer handbag (sorry, I know, terribly materialistic but I have to have one.)
2. Visit Edinburgh
3. See a Comedian we love
4. Glastonbury Festival
5. Go to New York (I can dream?)
6. Read 1 book a month (any apps to help track this would be super!)
7. Prepare for babies (CRIPES!)
8. Learn how to perfect the smoky eye!
9. Join a class – dance / pilates / yoga / basically something that makes me feel good
10. Actually follow through on a business idea that I get as I’m falling asleep
11. Buy an old caravan and DIY it up
12. Grow both my Twitter / Instagram to 10K followers each
13. Pass my driving test and get on the road!
14. Decorate our bedroom
15. Finish the work on our kitchen
16. Do something special for my husband (any ideas?)
17. Possibly being able to write my blog on a more full time basis (not sure at what capacity?)
18. Write short novel (that I finally finish!)
19. A music gig a year
20. Get my Bloglovin followers up to 5000
21. Perfect Carbonara (not my greatest dish)
22. Take my family on holiday
23. Head on a European driving holiday
24. Buy a new lens for my DSLR camera
25. Go Go-Karting
26. Buy myself a Fortnum & Mason hamper
27. Work with another Travel / Tour Operator on content for my blog
28. Go to Disneyland
29. Lose a stone
30. Book myself on a course, such as floristry or photography

So there we have it, my 30 by 30 list. I really hope that I can achieve at least two thirds of the list, but in an ideal world I would have completed them all.

Do you have some similar goals to work towards or did you do something like this in the run up to your 30th birthday? How did it go?

I just turned 25 last week and feel like that quarter life crisis may already be happening!! I need to write a list like this…

Oh babe, I had it. It was so weird! This lit was quite fun. I’ve nearly ticked off one already as we’ve booked to go see Micky Flanagan in May!

Cracking post, lovely! I’m loving your bucket list – New York is on mine too {and I’d say definitely keep Edinburgh high up on the list, it’s wonderful!} Also we need to tell Susan to bugger off. X

Thank you toots! I felt I had to do something, to work towards otherwise I get terribly stuck in a rut. Sounds like we have similar goals.

What fantastic and attainable goals! It sounds like you have some amazing things coming your way in the next three years!
For tracking your reading you should check out Goodreads – it’s fantastic and let’s you set a challenge each year.

Cheers to 27 – and the three (and many more) fabulous years ahead of you!

Oh Kate, they are quite easy ones but something to keep me on track and focussed (I need that!) A number of people have suggested GoodReads to me. Thank you lovely! CHEERS!

Hi bee great post I loved how honest and achievable your goals are and diy caravan sounds so much fun! I tried the book a month thing as my NYR this year but only managed 5 months, still did more reading so no regrets! Master chef had a great classic version of a carbonara last night using egg yolk maybe you could try that? Thanks for brightening my morning :)- Kiki x

    1. QueenBeady Avatar

      Thanks Kiki,
I wanted to make the type of goals that I know I can do and achieve, it can be so disheartening to set some and fail miserably! As long as you had a go at it, that’s all that matters though!
I’m glad I brightened up your day 🙂

I second the Goodreads nomination. I’m rapidly approaching 30 (I’ll be 29 this year) and we’re still as far away as every from home owning- though moving out of London was the first step in that regards- so that’s probably my biggest “life” priority, though it won’t happen before 30 for me.

    Happy, happy belated birthday!

    1. QueenBeady Avatar

Ooh yes, a lot of people have mentioned Good Reads too. I’ll have to download that one (I’ll delete Pokémon Go to make room for it!)
I’m so excited for you to be in Yorkshire, it’s a massive yet fun step!

At 35 (w.t.actual.f) I’m on my 40 before 40, but I actually started it about 10 yrs ago, and item no 1 on mine was a designer bag too! 🙂 Got a Mulberry and a Celine now, and yep, it’s worth it!
Re carbonara, maybe I can help? Foolproof, easy and delicious and almost perfectly Italian (learnt while I was in Florence). Boil enough spag for two, meanwhile chop bacon and fry it. You want to time it so bacon is just done at same time as spaghetti. In a bowl crack 2 eggs, loads of black pepper, and grate a shed load of parmesan and stir. Strain spaghetti, keeping 1-2 tbsps water. Stir in the bacon (inc the fat, this is what keeps it nice and creamy and stops it turning to scrambled egg). Then stir in your eggy cheese mixture and 1 or 2 tbsps of the water, depending on how creamy you like it. Serve immediately with loads more parmesan on. Try it. Promise it works! 🙂 xxx

I LOVE IT! Tell me your secret about how I can get my hands on a bag (lemme guess, lots of hard saving? Hehe!)

How are you getting on with your 40 before 40?

THAT IS IT! Keep the bacon fat in, my husband always makes me drain it out (cos he’s a bit of a weirdo, ha!) I’ll have to try it next time.

Yep, sadly the secret is it tastes better when it’s worse for you! 🙂 Sorry!
Umm, with the bags, got one on super sale with a bonus from work, and the other one I used my inheritance from my Grandpa – he made me promise I wouldn’t spend it on anything sensible like uni fees and would treat myself! So a Mulberry Bayswater tote it was! (Also bought in Duty free so it was cheaper, I love a bargain!). x

That’s usually the case isn’t it?
Sounds like I need you around for some shopping trips please!

    Good luck with your list!
I didn’t really have a “I have to do this by 30” list. I have a general bucket list but it’s not time specific. I was dreading turning 30 when I reached 29, but a couple of months later, I started dating my current boyfriend and everything kinda fell into place 🙂

This is such a great idea. Reading your post, and nodding along, I realised “cripes, I’m 27 in 10 months.” I also realised, I’ve been with my fiance for 6 years, come January, and we’ve been living in this house, our first house together, for 4 years come July. Where has the time gone? If you don’t mind, I’d love to borrow your idea and do a sort of bucket list of things I’d like to achieve by the time I’m 30? Lots of good luck with your list. As for reading – try GoodReads. You can set a yearly goal – so 12 books a year if you were looking to read 1 a month perhaps – and it will tell you whether you’re on track, behind or ahead of schedule to complete that goal! x http://www.aimeeraindropwrites.co.uk x

Haha, that’s exactly what I was thinking, how the heck did I get here and to this age? It’s crazy how fast time flies. I can’t believe it will be our 3 year wedding anniversary next year.
I think Good Reads is the option everyone has told me so far, I think I need to do that one now.

I love these ‘X Before X’ lists, they’re such a good way to set yourself goals without being really ‘5-year plan’-ish about it. I like that you’ve mixed the big stuff with little fun things – makes the whole thing seem less scary! I turn 26 in January – should I be making a 30 Before 30? xxx

    1. QueenBeady Avatar

I’ve never ever had a 5 year plan. I’ve kinda known when I’d like to do things before, plus I always associate plans with like proper “life” things that aren’t all that fun. This list gives me fun, but achievable goals to reach whilst enjoying myself. Hey, it’s never too late to start one 😉

Bee, I totally get your confusion as to how you got to this age, I’m like this at 32.!lol And ditto, I definitely still don’t know what I’m doing..
So many of these are mentally on my own list.. maybe I should curate a 40 before 40.. :/
Look forward to updates on your achievements.. you’re sure to smash it.

Oh I totally get what you’re going through! I think I was actually 27 when I got into the panic mode of ‘I’m-too-bloody-old’ and I was dreading becoming 30 so much I actually haven’t celebrated it at all. Now, I’m going to be 32 in a few weeks and I still feel the same – I guess I’m going through middle age crisis haha! Great idea to have a list though, yours has some fantastic ideas! I also want to go to New York and even Edinburgh!

27 is such a funny age, you want to feel like you’re still mid twenties but you are so close to 30! I think we all never quite know what we are doing with our lives, but we might as well have fun doing it. Have a super birthday!

Also I have ALWAYS wanted to buy an old RV and do it up – let me live vicariously through you!!!

I will be 29 in march (EEP!!) so may have to do myself a 30 before 30 list. As for tracking which book you read and how many, I’d highly recommend Goodreads. I am using it to complete my challenge of 12 books this year 🙂
