THE HAPPYSELVES CHALLENGE
#HAPPYSELVESCHALLENGE
A little bit of kindness goes a long, long, way – wouldn’t you agree? 🌿
As this festive season focusses on “giving” we can get very consumed with buying gifts, black Friday and cyber week deals that it becomes a little all encompassing. I think it’s easy to lose sight of the kindness we can lend to one another without producing huge gifts on one day of the year (that’s not to say I don’t mind a prezzie or two!) I thought #happyselveschallenge would be a great way to kick off the festivities!
It got me thinking though, I created a hashtag on Instagram many moons ago where I focussed on being happy, or being the best version of you under the guise of #happyselves and can you believe it has amassed over 75K tags. That’s incredible when you think about it really?
So, what am I here for and what am I trying to tell you in today’s blog post? After some ghastly person decided to pick apart someone’s appearance on a photo that I had taken of them and that they had loved, I believed that we can all extend a little bit of kindness, especially at this time of year. No strike that, at any time of the year.
There’s only 3 things I want you to think about daily for however long you want to join in for, but I think they won’t take up a huge amount of your day and it will spread a little but of joy around us.
Here’s the #happyselveschallenge
I challenge you this week (& hopefully all in the run up to Christmas!) to do 3 things, I hope you’ll join in with me.
1) Give someone you know IRL a huge compliment face to face, or a pat on the back when they have done something awesome – I’m sure this will bring someone the greatest joy to be taken notice of and it might just give them the boost that they’ve needed for so long.
2) Instagram & Twitter seems to be full of trolls at this time of year, sadly found out by @theyorkshirepages so I challenge you to spend a few minutes a day really READING & ABSORBING what someone has to say in their captions or tweets and leave a heartfelt, well thought out comment that will make them smile and forget the bad people in the world. And for any bonus points, give a troll a compliment too (it always confuses them!)
And finally…
3) Every day when you wake up tell YOURSELF something lovely about yourself that you love or decide on a simple take that you could do that day to be a little bit kinder to you! It’s easy to forget ourselves sometimes and we need to be lovely to ourselves just as much to others.
I hope you’ll join in with the #happyselveschallenge (it’d be great if you could use the hash tag too so I can see all the wonderful things you’re doing!) and don’t forget to tag me too at @queenbeady.
If there’s other ways you’d like to give back this year, don’t forget my Alternative Christmas Guide here!
