Ah November. As we say goodbye to not only my favourite month, but my birthday month too, it’s now time to dive right in to festive mode. No sooner had our pumpkins been made in to fresh, home-made soup we had christmas adverts wiggling back on to our TV screens. Whilst I’m not opposed to all things Christmas, in fact I love it, it would be nice to get through Halloween and Bonfire night before it is thrust upon us once more. But, as the nights get darker and the days become shorter it can only mean one thing: that there are sparkly parties on the horizon, for us to get dressed up for, which surely means finding the perfect party dresses to dazzle in, right? Wrong. We can all become a little self conscious when the season of goodwill (read: mince pies!) comes round, and lets face it not everyone is big in to sparkly, low-cut dresses! So, how can we get through it? Here’s 5 ways to feel confident during party dress season!

1. WEAR WHATEVER YOU FEEL GODDAM CONFIDENT IN!
I’m really not big in to sparkles, except glitter (give me all the glitter!) so when short, low-cut, barely there, sequined dresses start coming out I run for the hills. Okay, amazing if you love it and rock it but sadly I’m just not ready to look like a disco ball yet. My go-to dresses are floral dresses even if it isn’t considered very “christmassy” and I’ve found that high neck, long-sleeved dresses (like this one) have been my god-send through my winter chunk phase.

2. IT DOESN’T ALWAYS HAVE TO BE A DRESS
Girls, there are no rule books about what you should and shouldn’t wear. If you ain’t a dress kinda gal, you don’t need to jump through hoops to be one. You can style up a dress with a pair of jeans, as above, voilΓ ! It takes the edge off and you won’t catch a chill. There’s also some amazing suits out there too, that just look divine! This green, velvet two piece from Monsoon screams “holiday season” and looks ridiculously comfy too.

3. WORK OUT THAT DAY
And no, this isn’t for any superficial reason other than to get your endorphins ready. After going to the gym or doing some exercise you can instantly feel quite powerful from all the exciting energy flowing around your body. This might focus your energy on the bits you love about yourself and not end up worrying if you shouldn’t have gauged on that cupcake for lunch (FYI, ALWAYS gauge on the cupcake!)

4. HAVE A PRE-PARTY RITUAL
Take a long soak, light some scented candles, even whip out a face mask to calm the senses. I know when I’ve had a nice, relaxing few hours before I’m about to go out in a party frock I feel way more in tune with picking out what I want to wear and I’m less likely to go in to meltdown mode (promise, it’s only ever happened once or twice. Oh who am I kidding?)

5. GO FOR A BLOW DRY
If there’s anything in life that can bring the most joy, it’s a blow dry. Let someone else massage your head for 10 minutes and then let them give you a big and bouncy blow dry. When I walk out of salon after a blow dry (even with my horrific roots!) I can’t tell you how sassy I feel walking down a street. It can be an extravagant expense, but, if you find local salons with trainee’s and apprentices, you can usually get them for half the price! Go on, it’s the season of giving and all that – and that includes to yourself!

Do you have any hints and tips to feel more confident during party season? I’d love to know in the comments below…

You look gorgeous here Bee!! 😍😍 I love how you have styled this dress with the jeans & boots, definitely takes it from Spring into Autumn. I need to do this with the dresses I have in my wardrobe!! Thanks Bee!

I never feel confident during ‘party season’ either, but thankfully I never have to wear fancy dresses or go to any parties so I needn’t worry really, I just need to learn to be confident during my everday dressing instead. Not feeling that way at the moment & I hate the way I look in everything which just makes any form of clothes shopping just impossible. Ugh.

My top tips is wear whatever you freakin’ want to – if you feel happy, comfortable and confident in it, wear it and screw what people say/ think!

I’m definitely not a sparkly dress kinda gal either so totally agree that the best thing to do is wear whatever you feel comfortable in! You look beaut here, the colour of that dress suits you so well.

I absolutely love the green velvet Monsoon suit too – but as I’m on holiday in the run up to Christmas (and missing all the Christmas parties) there is no reason for me to buy it πŸ™
