It is so easy to get intoxicated by the buying signals of influencers all over our social media feed. Should I buy this, should I book those flights, should I be doing this? It’s a vicious circle we can sometimes find ourselves in, trying to fit in with the crowd and keep up appearances. I’ll be honest, I’ve tried not to follow trends too much because I’ve learnt over the years that by stretching ourselves in that way can rail road us off the course of authenticity. And then it totally blows when you forget yourself along the way. I wrote a post entitled the Simple Things and it reminded me of all the things I enjoy in life that I  take for granted far too much, even if they are cool or not. And my Self Acceptance post honed in on the fact that I’ve really started to accept who I am as a person and that has meant living by my own means and not by anyone’s expectations. It’s freeing and boy does it feel good.

After getting back from Ibiza I’ve been making more time in my life for things that are away from “technology.” Getting outside, even just sat in the garden watching the world go by. There’s nothing more peaceful than listening to the birds singing away. I love getting out and about with my camera too, I can’t say I’m the world’s best photographer but I’m doing something I love so, in turn it makes me happier.

Making time for family and friends more has been on the agenda. After some family health scares, the loss of loved ones, it becomes even more apparent that looking up from your screens and interacting with one another is paramount to living more in the moment and enjoying each other for all it’s worth. It’s been filled with scrummy dinners out at our local pubs, coffee shop stops and days out, laughing and joking all the while without looking at a phone screen.

There’s nothing quite like getting lost in a book. I never read anything too heavy, purely because I find the escapism in a funny, romantic comedy leaving me feeling warm and fuzzy inside. (It beats turning on the TV and seeing on the news the world slowly implode.) A few of my favourites authors are Sophie Kinsella, Jenny Colgan and Milly Johnson. All have a similar style and always centres around a strong, female lead. We need more of that in our lives! (I’m not wearing a Girl Power top for nothing, you know!)

I’ve slowly started getting rid of my worldly posessions too, as soon as I passed my driving test I said I’d do a car boot and a car boot I did. I took bags and bags filled with clothes, homewares and more. It meant I got to empty out wardrobes and storage and made a pretty penny too. There’s nothing like a little bit of decluttering to really feel your home come back to life. You know what they say, a happy home, a happy life.

Oh, and finally, puppy cuddles are the bomb diggity too. There’s nothing quite like puppy snogs and cuddles to make the day that much brighter. Animals are the future. What did we do to deserve them?

Living simply can mean so many different things to people. Minimalism, not purchasing extravagant things, enjoying the rough of the outdoors more, turning the TV off, scaling back our time spent on social media, enjoying the things we love more – but ultimately a daily dose of all the above can help improve your life just that little bit more.

In a fast paced world, where everything is at the end of our finger tips it’s time to breathe in the fresh air, not get cosumed by consumerism and quite simply; live simply, live happy.

I totally agree with you Bee – living simply is such a great way to be. I did a big declutter quite some time ago and I’ve felt so much happier since we did it – we don’t need so much stuff weighing us down x

Thank you Jenny, it really is and decluttering as you say just free’s up so much space not only in the home but in my mind too! You’re so right.

I love what you said at the beginning about living by your own means and not anyone else’s expectations – I’ve found that difficult at times because entering the blogging world, there seems to be so much that is about stuff and things and newness, but I think it’s really important. I’m planning a big declutter over the next few weeks as we are moving so its a good time for a clear out and I’m so excited about it, whenever I do it I feel so much lighter and happier. You look gorge in these photos! xxx

The blogging world can be cruel, we are so hard on ourselves to fit in or do certain things that we can sometimes forget ourselves along the way. I hope you’re decluttering sesh goes well! And ps. Thank you! X

love a good car boot sale! such a great way to declutter and get rid of the things taking up our space and time so we can concentrate on the things that matter. spending less time on social media has helped me a lot recently, i definitely don’t spend as much on twitter as I used to and that’s only been a good thing. happy weekend xx

Oh man, I’m already planning when I can do another one. It’s such a good way to get rid of a mass of stuff! Twitter can be both a wonderful yet chaotic place to be, sometimes my head space can’t handle it, so you do right.

Love, love LOVE this post, what a precious pup – and an excellent hat, too. I’m glad you’re feeling more comfortable in your own skin. THAT’s the kind of “influence” I live for.

Thank you darling, she’s absolutely gorgeous isn’t she? And yes, it’s so nice to be happy with myself. I think a lot of it was wanting to pass my driving test too, that’s made me a much more confident person.

You are so right – this is a fantastic post. To me, living simply means less clutter, time away from social media and the computer, and time spent with loved ones. I try to do all three of these as often as possible. And you can’t beat a good book. I am a voracious reader! x http://www.aimeeraindropwrites.co.uk x

Absolutely, once I start doing little things like this to mix it up a bit, I feel way more empowered! I love reading too, getting lost in a book is one of life’s simple pleasures.

Puppy snuggles are the absolute BEST, hands down. I also try and spend some time outside every single day! Alice xxx

Oh I love this post Bee – Sophie Kinsella books are my guilty holiday pleasure and puppy cuddles (even if the pup is now 2 years old and a fully grown Lab) are the greatest!!!

Your posts are so inspiring Bee. I used to waste away my weekends in front of computer but we now get out more and spend it outside instead. I feel so much better for it and honestly I don’t know when was the last time I had TV on in the evening. Love your posts Xx
