HOW TO TRAVEL STRESS-FREE | QUEENBEADY

IMG_4569

Travel is fun, invigorating and exciting. But it can also be bloody stressful too. With deciding which of your ten pairs of shoes you need to throw out of the packing mix to locating passports before you set off to the airport, we all wish travelling could be a little more stress-free. Don’t you think? There’s definitely some handy hints & tips that can make travelling more of a breeze and less of a chore and I’d love to share them with you.
1. LISTS LISTS LISTS
List’s are your best friends. I always write a long list of packable items for when I go on holiday. Even breaking it down in to day by day outfit choices just so I know I’m covered. It helps you filter out what you & don’t need and if that last minute Primark dash is needed or not? Do you really need that pair of £1 flip flops?

2. PREPARE + SAVE
Being prepared hurts nobody. It might mean stockpiling sun tan lotion in the winter (generally speaking you can pick it up much cheaper than in the height of summer!) and having a cupboard filled with holiday goodies means not panic-buying everything from the small travel sections in the supermarket.

3. INVEST IN A KINDLE
I’m about to go against all I ever stood for (I’m still one of those people who likes to pick a book up and read it from cover to cover!) but, I must resign myself to the fact that if I want more space in my suitcase, a kindle or e-reader is going to be a much easier way of packing lots of books and running out of space for those ten pairs of shoes I wanted to bring.

4. CHECK IN ONLINE & PICK YOUR SEATS
Did someone say not having to queue to check in at the airport? Most airlines allow you to check in online and pre-book your seats for a small fee (less of a disappointment at the airport when you don’t get seats together!) It’s a win/win situ in my eyes!

5. SAT NAV THAT AIRPORT POSTCODE
I don’t know how we ever managed to get to Manchester airport without sat nav, by the skin of our teeth and a few arguments along the way, but we did. Now we have in built sav on our phones, lets make use of it. Pop it in before you set off because sometimes it’s difficult to get 4G on the motorway and that is probably going to be when you need. Arrive at the airport less agitated.

6. PRE-BOOK YOUR PARKING
Not only does it make it a lot simpler making your way to the airport, but it also will save you £££’s by pre-booking rather than paying on the gate. There will be no nasty surprises when you arrive back and they barrier is asking you to part with a small mortgage before you can get past the barrier and leave.

7. CHECK YOURSELF IN TO THE AIRPORT LOUNGE
For around £20pp, you can book in to the airport lounge once you are passed security. And, for that grand sum you’ll have access to food, drink, free wifi and a much more relaxed area to unwind before you get on the plane. After all, airport’s can be pretty busy places and this makes it a perfectly pleasant experience. Plus, it’s great to budget for how much you spend at the airport because let’s face it, they aren’t cheap places.

8. PLAN, PLAN, PLAN
I love falling in to places by accident, but sometimes it really pays dividends to look up a few places on TripAdvisor or other travel blogs for foodie spots, places to see and things to do. It means you spend less time wandering and getting lost, and enjoying the days you do have on holiday.

And finally…

9. ENJOY IT
You’ve spent many months waiting for the main event, so sit back, relax and enjoy every single second of it.

Have you de-stressed for your holiday after reading this? What are your top tips?

Great tips! You can often save money in the airport lounge if you take into account the amount of money you’d usually spend on food and drinks! Preparing is key too – I’ve started making custom Google Maps before I leave with pins for all the bars, restaurants, attractions etc that I want to see, then I can download it offline to use when I arrive!

Ooh yes the offline map trick is always a good one. Less so now since 3 allows free roaming for so many countries but for when I head back to Asia I usually do that and it works brilliantly!

I’m a super anxious traveler (lol people assume I’m super chill because I apparently ‘do it all the time’) so for me it’s always to pre-plan way in advance – packing a week and not the night before, getting my toiletries in order for those 100ml restriction and of course, making sure the journey to the airport is a smooth one. We thought we were going to miss our plane because of the ‘storm’ a couple of months ago and the train was SO SLOW but thankfully it went okay!

Also my #1 tip is to always bring an empty bottle to fill up pass security as they always have water fountains and I don’t have to pay a silly 3 pounds for a bottle! On long haul flights they often fill it out for you too 🙂

Me too! I love to travel but boy do I get nervous and proper meltdown, ha. We sound so similar.

Oh no, that would have had me coming out in hives if I was stuck on that train going to the airport. The idea of missing a flight terrifies me.

Ooh I’ve never seen water fountains at our airport! That is good.

I used to be so against having a kindle but since my Mum got me one a few years ago, I’ve used it so many times. I still love reading an actual book but it makes it so much easier to download books and to have them stored digitally x

I know, me too! There’s nothing nicer than flicking through a proper book. But yes, I definitely want to invest in an e-reader soon.

I love using my kindle when travelling, it makes like so much easier! I just think it’s always better to leave more time, even if you get to the airport earlier, may as well spend some time having a wander and food rather than rushing at the last minute!

YES! Leaving plenty of time can really allow you to relax a lot more.

I think I’m gonna need to get some sort of e-reader for our next trip.

Ah Bee, great post! I love stocking up on suncream year round when it’s on the reduced shelf! And I always have minis I’m keeping for weekends away! Or for hand luggage packing!
I’ve never done the airport lounges – would you really recommend them?

HAHA! I’m so glad there is someone else out there like me hoarding things for holidays.

I wold definitely recommend the airport lounges. If you ever go out of Manchester T1 – then yes! Most definitely, It was like a cattle market! And for £20 I got to drink endless beers and G&T’s! Holiday starts early 🙂

I keep thinking about booking the airport lounge but I’ve never taken the plunge as yet (figuring I’m not often organised enough to spend enough time at the airport to appreciate it!) – maybe next time!

Oh you must, it’s a great way to start your holiday. It’s so much more relaxed and you know how much you’re going to spend in the airport.

LOVE this post girl – so many fab tips! I always stock pile beauty products like suncream when they’re on offer and I save all my mini products for short haul trips too! I definitely agree with booking into an airport lounge too; I love to be there early and just relax before a long flight – there’s NOTHING worse than stressing or thinking you’re going to miss your flight!

Oh man, the lounge is SO LOVELY. It takes so much of the stress out of it, especially when the airport is super busy!
