There’s few things I enjoy more than the turn of Spring. The lighter nights, the (slightly) warmer days, I find myself with, quite literally, a spring in my step. Something that I seem to lose through the Winter months. It means we can enjoy the outdoors for everything it is worth, head off to music festivals, hopping on planes to far flung destinations, long walks in the countryside. Let’s face it, it’s a much happier time of year which brings way more fun to our lives & boy don’t we just love it? But, maybe not as much as the Swede’s…
Blossom starts forming on the tree’s. Beautiful, colourful flowers burst from the ground. both of which I just love to capture on camera. Everything starts to spring back in to action and back to life. There is a certain kind of vibrancy about this time of year that other month’s just don’t seem to create. Finding a spread of bluebells in the forest, watching the sweetpea’s start growing up the trellis and finally, the beloved peony springing in to bloom. To watch each type of flower come in to it’s seasonal bloom is a joy. We are oh-so lucky here in the UK with this gorgeous season & what flora it brings!
You can firmly start packing away your Winter woollies and start filling your wardrobe full with floaty tops, summer dresses and sandals. There’s nothing more satisfying than being able to bare shoulders and ankles here in the UK. Would it be silly of me to say that this is one of the most exciting parts of the new season is baring ankles?
And whilst we have seen a little bit of rain recently, it is nice to see the sun shining. Everyone needs a little bit of Vitamin D and I can’t help but feel so optimistic at this time of year.
It means the garden furniture comes out of the shed and we start inviting friends over for BBQ’s where we eat yummy food and sip on one of my favourite Rekorderlig Ciders*, I can never quite decide which is my favourite. Strawberry & Lime is best served over ice with fresh mint leaves or real strawberries and finished with a wedge of lime which is super zesty and ever so refreshing on those hot, spring evenings. But then there’s Passion fruit? Wild Berries or Mango & Raspberry? I have to say, it’s a hard choice because they are all so scrummy and so perfect for those lazy, fun nights in your back yard, laughing and dancing in to the small hours with loved ones.
Top tip: Add fairy lights and bunting around your garden to really bring the night to life. Doesn’t it just make it so much more magical?
Without a doubt, Spring has to be my favourite times of year and it seems not only do I enjoy it, Sweden does too. The last day of April is named “Walpurgis Eve”, it is a celebration to ring the start of spring. The Swedes host bonfires and public gatherings across the country which is then followed the next day with Walpurgis, a public bank holiday to enjoy this glorious time of year. Sounds pretty dreamy right? I’ve always said that the Swedes know how to live life to it’s full potential (I mean, hello 6 hour working days?!) Add friends and family, good music and a cold, tall bottle of Swedish Rekorderlig Cider to the mix and I think you have a winning formula for one of the best celebrations the world has to offer.
