Growing up we are always finding ways to fit in, be the best and generally muddling through our teenage lives without trying (but failing) to F up everything. I’ve spoken on here before about how my teenage years were riddled with confusion. One minute I’d find my tribe and the next I wasn’t welcome. It was hard. I’m confident, not scared to stand up for what I believe in, yet I’m plagued with worrying about the aftermath of that. As I’ve grown older I’ve found my voice a little bit more and the best way to use it, funnily enough, this blog is where I let my creative juices flow. Whilst I do wish I had certain things – “Hello, lottery win, where are ya?” I’ve managed to carve something of a life that I can feel content with. I’ve got a whistle stop tour of how you can create a more chilled out, stress-free, content life for yourself.

1. SURROUND YOURSELF WITH GOOD PEOPLE. It really goes without saying, doesn’t it? But when you do allow yourself to decide exactly who you want in & out of your life you can finally feel a little bit more “you.” People who bring you down are not worth the time, you need to let them go and spread your wings. Surround yourself with those where you know you can unapologetically shares your strengths with, giggle till your sides hurt and be at your worst, too.

2. LET THAT SHIT GO. I need to listen to myself more on this one as I am the worst culprit of this. I hold on to grudges and get a bee in my bonnet to the point where I let it buzz around for the sake of it. There is a little bit of torment in my head at the moment regarding something that winds me up and slowly but surely, I’ve decided there genuinely isn’t anything I can about it and I have to accept it for what it is. Run with it, sometimes you have to remember you can’t control other people or situations and when you realise that, it free’s up a heck of a lot of head space for more important things.

FEELING SUPER SASSY

3. SAY YES TO NEW THINGS (BUT DON’T FORGET IT IS OKAY TO SAY NO TO THINGS TOO.) I get stuck in a rock and a hard place. I always want to say yes to things for fear of missing out but when I say no (because I want to say no) I can sometimes feel bad. Make the right decisions for you, if you’re struggling, weigh up the pro’s and cons of those things and decide that way. Sometimes you do have to be an adult and say no to things, that’s okay but also remember that saying yes to other things could open so many more doors for you. (It’s always worth mentioning that you shouldn’t feel awful if someone is either a) pressuring you or b) making you feel bad for saying no. Send those sorry asses home!)

4. COMPARISON IS THE THIEF OF JOY. You’ll hear this saying so much, but a truer word could not be spoken. When you start to remember that you aren’t always going to be on the same path as someone else, who you might aspire to, then you start to revel in your own small successes and enjoy them for what they are. Positivity is the key!

5. DELCUTTER. I mean physically and mentally. Have a clear out of your wardrobe, get rid of the things you haven’t used or worn for the last year. And when I say mentally, write a list of things that you want to achieve. I find it so much easier to reach my daily goals when I have written a task list, it’s almost like it frees up extra space in my mind. Whatever “decluttering” means to you, I urge you to do it.

6. GO OUTDOORS. My blog has taken a little back seat recently, I’m only churning out one or two posts a week, that’s because when I get home the last thing I want to do is look at a computer screen. I’ve been getting out on long dog walks, exploring new areas near us. I’m also going to the gym more. I always feel more content when I’m exercising or spending time outside. Why not try it yourself?

7. EXPRESS YOUR EMOTIONS. If you love something or someone tell them, it will mean a lot to them and it will also feel so good to say it out loud. Disagree with something, maybe someone isn’t treating you right? Stand up for yourself and make a valid, clear point that you don’t like the way you are being treated. Wanna make friends with someone, TELL THEM. You get the jist here, right? When you start to accept your emotions and roll with the punches you will become so much more confident in your beliefs.

8. THE GRASS ISN’T ALWAYS GREENER. I know the idea of self progression is to make yourself better and reach new heights, but what if where you are right now is the perfect time and place? I think we often forget to be thankful for what we have here & now. I’m guilty. Recently, I’ve been living in the moment and enjoying what I have, once I started doing that, my outlook on life has completely changed. For the better.

BEE! You have no idea how much I needed to read something like this today. So THANK YOU. Any tips I could have thought of for feeling content with life, you’ve got them right here. I think I’ve stopped living in the moment recently and that’s had a massive effect on my mind set, it’s time to live for now without worrying so much about what could be.

I absolutely love this post, it’s so full of positivity! Also your outfit pictures are just amaaaazing. I find it really difficult to get the balance between saying yes and saying no to things – I’m quite all or nothing so it’s a challenge for me! Totally agree that getting outdoors helps – I love nothing more than a wander in the countryside for clearing my head!

Love this and will definitely be sharing! I especially connected with #7 – I’ve been working on telling people what they mean to me. Lately I’ve been on a journey to write one thank-you note every day for a month. It’s really helped me both appreciate the wonderful people I have in my life and share my emotions with them.

Amanda, that is such a lovely thing to do! That is such a wonderful idea, I think I might start doing that. It will start the day with a grateful heart. Sorry for the late reply!

Bee this is aces, so filled with positivity. Couldn’t agree more with your tips-I’ve been outdoors more than I’ve been inside lately and it has such an impact on my overall wellbeing. I definitely need to learn to let more stuff go-easier said than done though.
It’s a bit twee and sounds hippy dippy but someone said to me recently that they smile before they open every door. So they enter every new space with a happy face, greeting whoevers on the other side of it with openness. I’ve been trying it, I like it!

There is nothing more refreshing than getting out of the house and getting outdoors. It makes me feel so much more free and even more giddy!
That idea is so cute though, I might start doing that!

What a great post, filled with so much positivity. I love it! I often find decluttering, both mentally and physically, helps A LOT! And I’m so guilty of not being happy/content with what I have here, and now. Always looking for the next thing. I think I need to spend a little bit more time being grateful for what is now than what could be! x http://www.aimeeraindropwrites.co.uk x

I have to agree Aimee, it gives my brain more free space to accept more positive things! Sorry for the late reply.

    Fab post, Mrs! 🙂
Some great tips. Agree with them and all, plus definitely need to remember some, from time to time. 🙂
At the end of the day I always like to go to bed remembering and reminding myself that whatever has gone on that day is that day and that I am thoroughly grateful to have my lovely husband, gorgeous boy and my health. 🙂

Aww thanks Caroline, you absolute cutie! That’s it, we are so conditioned to concentrate on the bad rather than the good so we need to start breaking the norm and championing all the good things more!
