Keeping Healthy Both Body & Mind | QueenBeady

Processed with VSCO with f2 preset

I’m in a really good place at the moment, as I mentioned in a earlier postI thought it was a good time as ever to grab the bull by the horns and really get back on track with my health and fitness regime. Both physically and mentally. I find that when I’m feeling really positive it spurs me on to be more mindful and look after myself that bit extra – there is no time like the present to kick some balls. Here’s how I’m keeping healthy both body & mind!

My FitBit C/O Simply Health
I was recently sent the FitBit Flex from Simply Heath to track how active I am when out and about and doing something that really get’s the heartbeat going. Saturday just passed I was swinging like a monkey from the tree’s at Go Ape in Dalby Forest (a post to follow.) For me, getting off my bottom and exercising be it at the gym or just walking to work is when I feel most in control of my life. I sleep better, my concentration levels are better and I generally feel more confident in myself (again, both physically and mentally!) I’ve linked it up to MyFitnessPal as I find this the easiest app to track my diet, whilst my FitBit tracks and monitors my activity and calories.

Calm App
I’ve downloaded the Calm App after seeing Kayleigh from VeryBerryCosmo tweeted and posted about it. For me, having quiet moments are few and far between. I’m always at work surrounded by people in a shared office with the radio playing (not that I’m complaining – as this is partly down to why I feel so much more energised since moving offices at work.) And then when I’m home I have my husband and dog around me. I feel like I need a little lonesome retreat! Calm offers a programmed called “7 days of Calm” – each day you have a 10 minute mindfulness and meditation session and it’s unbelievable how good I feel when I finish them. The breathing techniques are phenomenal. I’d highly suggest this if you need some “me time.”

Get Out
For me, I work 8 or more hours sat on my backside in front of a computer screen and then end up blogging or sitting on my phone tapping away. For me, the best way to feel healthy is getting out and about on a night or on the weekend. I love being outdoors, the fresh air completely revitalises me and stops me from getting square eyes. Walking the dog is my actual saviour and the best excuse for getting out of the office or home!

Set Realistic Goals
There is nothing worse than having a goal, be it losing weight, setting yourself a new personal best and not achieving it. It’s demoralising to the soul when you don’t reach those targets. Set yourself steady goals that do push you but aren’t completely unreachable. It will keep you more motivated to keep going, each time you reach them, set your next goal and keep at it! It will feel so much more rewarding when you do see the end results.

The Life-changing Magic of Not Giving a F**K
It really is magic. This book by Sarah Knight is fabulous book written to encourage those who do give a flying f**k about things that they really shouldn’t, to not give ANY f**ks. I’ve not finished the book yet, but it’s a laugh a minute and it’s really helping me deal with those difficult people I come across so very often. I’ve never really been big in to self-help books, but this one really caught my eye. Valuing your own sanity over what people think is a new mantra  for me.

Things “Could Be Worse”
I tell myself this often. I have a roof over my head, a wonderful husband, a great job and lots of other nice things that tick over in my life. I have to remind myself of this a lot as I can find myself in a rut thinking I’m hard done by, but actually, I’m not. I’m a very lucky person that I have those things in my life. It’s time to seize the moment and be more grateful for the wonderful things I do have in my life. Here’s a tip, write down 5 things that make you happy on a bad day or just before the day starts and it will make you so much more appreciative for it.

80/20 Rule
By no means have I changed my diet a huge amount, but, instead of that big fat sandwich that leaves me feeling bloated or hungry an hour later I’m bringing salads to work that I’ve prepared at home (hooray that the new office has fridge?!) and yet I’m still having that end of week takeaway? Hell, this girl can’t give up pizza! I’ve lost around 3lbs last week in a healthy and controlled way. I feel great for it.

Are you currently exploring new ways to keep healthy? I’d love to know how, be it conventional or non-conventional!

I seriously need to get that app downloaded, that sounds just like what I need right now in my life. Also, I have a fitbit flex and it’s pretty much everything I need – step and sleep goals are more than enough for me. xxx

Since my partner and I are trying for a baby, and I’m not exactly slim, I’ve been trying to get healthier. Both physically and mentally, ‘cos both are super important! For my physical health; I plan to start swimming at least once a month (twice once I’ve passed my driving test and can get there on my own!) in May when the new pool opens. Also, cutting down portion sizes, cutting out some of the takeaways we have, and eating healthier lunches (hooray for salads!) Mentally; taking time out for myself, and bullet journalling. It may sound odd, but my bullet journal helps me feel so much less stressed! It’s ace! Glad to hear that you’re in a good place and hoping it continues for you 🙂 Loved reading this! x http://www.aimeeraindropwrites.co.uk x

Oh congratulations Aimee! I’m wishing you all the luck in the world with that. It’s so good you are looking at this in a really healthy way. I want to get driving too so I can nip to the gym on my own too. (Why did I not get it done sooner!!!)
