Family Time & Love to Eat, York | QueenBeady

Poached Egg Love To Eat York

Getting to spend time with my family is so precious, because I don’t drive (yes I know a pitiful excuse for a 26 year old!) I have to rely on people or public transport getting me from A to B. Last weekend I decided I desperately needed a bit of mummy/sister time so headed over to York to do just that. I’ve been hankering to visit Love To Eat York, which is a cute little deli style cafe not too far from my parent’s house.

This place is my idea of heaven, mis matched cutlery and china, chairs of all shapes and sizes along with a short but sweet menu to die for. It is a recipe for my dream cafe. Everything is very “twee” with a pinch of cool, eclectic charm which I never thought could be in the same sentence. It’s clear that they have raided a school for it’s furniture as I spied similar stools we had in our science lessons and the wooden ones that used to stack in the dinner hall.

Pot of Tea Love to Eat York

Cream Tea

After checking out the menu I decided I wanted a trusty plate of poached eggs and bacon on brown toast. OH. MY. GOD. With every mouthful I was just “mmming” and “ahhhing” – it really was delicious. The eggs were perfectly runny and a golden yellow ooze ran down my fork with every bite. Scrumptious. My sister wasn’t too hungry and neither was my Mum so whilst I feasted on mine they stuck with a scone, with strawberry jam and cream & a piece of flapjack. A pot of tea all round.

Bessies Yorkshire Preserves

With their menu, along comes different seasonal dishes too. I spied pancakes with bacon and maple syrup around Shrove Tuesday so was dying for some, but they sadly didn’t have them on the menu again. But I love that they add things here & there to mix it up a bit. They have mushrooms on toasted bread with feta which looked and sounded absolutely delicious but I was dead set on my brunch style option.

Victoria Sponge Hearts Love to Eat York

Brownie Love to Eat

With an extensive take away list of treats and goodies, I picked up five little heart shaped Victoria Sponges for my family & of course the husband who I had left home for the day and they were so soft and light. That is exactly how cakes should be. Plus Louise (the owner) popped a little piece of Rolo brownie for me to try and let’s just say it melted in my mouth but as I was so full, Mr C ate most of it. His cheeky grin gave me everything I needed to know.

Cakes Love To Eat York

The whole time we were at Love to Eat we just talked and joked, as the place was pretty quiet when we arrived around 11.30. Once it hit midday it was clear what a popular little place this is as all the tables were full. It’s clear to see why! I’d definitely recommend getting there early doors if you are wanting brunch/lunch over the weekend.

Do you have any cute little spots on your doorstep that are very popular? I’d love to hear from you!

I’ll have some brownie please! I love little tearooms and places like this…though I always just end up with cake and juice as I don’t drink hot drinks!
