5 (more) Travel Destinations I Fell in Love With | QueenBeady

St Pauls Bay Church Rhodes

I enjoyed writing about some of the travel destinations that myself and my husband have been fortunate enough to travel to over the years. Some of the destinations we have been to aren’t far-flung, exotic places but we have fallen in love with them all the same – so I hope that you enjoy these posts and that they can be added to all of your growing lists of adventures you want to go on.

“I would rather own little & see the world than own the world and see little of it.” – An unknown person so very wisely said.

1. Rhodes, Greece

Rhodes

Squid Rhodes

We spent 2 weeks on the island of Rhodes which meant it gave us plenty of time to travel around without wearing ourselves down too much. As we always do in Greece, we hired a quad so we could explore much deeper in to this vast Greek Island. Unlike the Ionian Islands, Islands such as Rhodes (and Kos and Crete) the landscape is pretty baron so it’s the views out to see that are what you come here for. The crystal coloured sea is like no other, places like Lindos and St Pauls Bay were our favourite places on the island providing magnificent sunsets to watch. As Rhodes is a super big island, I’d love to visit some of the smaller, lesser know islands (that also look incredibly Instagram-worthy!) such as Milos, Greece.

2. Budapest, Hungary

Budapest

I wrote a couple of blog posts on Budapest, here & here! It is such a vast place to visit. Being one of the largest cities in Europe we certainly did a lot of walking around Budapest. There is just so much to do and see that 3 nights could have easily turned in to 4 or 5. The highlights for me were taking a trip to the House of Terror, the history is harrowing but so vital to the history of the world wars that tore Europe apart. We went in April over the Easter Weekend and it was pretty blustery & I’d have loved to have seen this place in the Summer and taken a boat trip down the Danube, the river that splits this huge city in two. Had we have had slightly nicer weather I’d have loved to have gone to one of the many outdoor spas. Hey, we can always go again, right?

3. Corfu, Greece
Beach Corfu

Corfu Town

Corfu

We absolutely adored Corfu. We paid £259pp to go All Inclusive in one of the most Fawlty Tower-esque hotels we have ever experienced. Whilst some people moaned and complained, James & I laughed till our sides hurt. It genuinely felt like we were on an episode of Benidorm – whilst that is our worst nightmare we would go out on the quad during the day and explore the island (plus I took him to some spots I had previously been to with a friend many moons ago) and we’d come back and get drunk on many watered down cocktails. My favourite part of the island has to be Paleokastritsa, it’s a beautiful spot home to Corfu’s monastery. It’s not touristy either and there are some really cute taverna’s here to watch the world go by.

4. Dubai, United Arab Emirates
Burj Khlaifa

Dubai Dunes

QB

Dubai has long been a destination I had always wanted to go to, however, when I arrived I had this love/hate relationship with it. A lot of it was like a construction site, we were there whilst they were building the Burj Khalifa, The Palm and The Globe so it was always going to feel like that. However, stripping it back and getting out in to the desert was one home to one of the most exhilarating experiences I could have ever had. Now, I’m no speed demon so getting out on to the Dunes in a 4×4 was pretty terrifying for me but so fun at the same time. I don’t think I stopped laughing, we ended the night having a BBQ in the desert at one of the old souks and it was magical. I was lucky enough to be sent as part of an educational when I was in travel, so I think if I was to go again I would change some of my experiences to be more tailored to me.

5. Side, Turkey
Manavgat

Side Apollo Temple

Side Gate

Our second ever holiday was to Side, Turkey. Our first two week beach holiday – time to really test our relationship! I managed to get a scorcher of a deal when I first stated with TUI. Within a couple of months we were packing our bags and heading on holiday. We were so new to everything, but we soon got our appetite for jumping on local transport and deviating away from traditional trips booked through your tour rep. Side is such a picturesque place, rumour has it that Anthony & Cleopatra holidayed here and it’s so easy to see why. Home to Apollo’s temple and a huge Amphitheatre staying in Old Town was the best option for us. We absolutely loved the place and wouldn’t hesitate to go back.

You’ll have to excuse some of the quality of photos, but we must remember that some of these are ancient (like 8/9 years old!) so we have advanced in photography and technology a lot since then. Looking back on our travel adventures has got me super excited for our travel plans in 2016. We already have a trip to Madeira and Oslo booked for the first half of the year & I can’t wait to share those trips with you!

They are a rarity for us too. Back in the day when we both got more annual leave? How on earth are we going backwards? Ha! Greece is lovely, I bet you’d love it.

These posts are killin’ me! I need to go to Greece! I still have never been and it’s always been a dream of mine. Can’t wait to hear about Madeira, it’s not a place I’ve ever considered before.

Hehe! They are killing me too, having to look at all those sunny photos (& how thin I was!) Greece is exceptionally beautiful. I’m hoping we can get there this year, Santorini in September fingers crossed! I can’t wait for Madeira either. There is so much to see and do on the island – we’ve been googling the hell out of it!

Ah so many holiday cravings! I fell in love with Budapest too – the ruin bars were so cool, the spa was amazing and I just thought the whole city had such a nice vibe. It’s definitely one of my favourite cities in Europe <3

It’s so beautiful! My friend and I went to Szechenyi Baths for a whole day – splurged on massages and then got repeatedly lost wandering around all the rooms in the spa haha. I loved the colourful tiled roof on St Matthias Church, and the Fisherman’s Bastion behind it – they were so unique! And the food; I still miss having coffee and cherry pastries for breakfast every morning… xx

Aw, I was very lucky that for a living I got to sit and search for holidays day in day out for 7 years! You must go to Budapest, you’d love it, I’m sure! Do you have any trips planned yet?
