It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas | QueenBeady

Slippers Wyndors

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas in the Clayton residence. This Sunday after a very busy (and slightly hungover) weekend we decided it was time to get the Christmas tree out of the attic and put it up. I have to admit despite various “Christmas” outings I still haven’t felt in the mood. But, Sunday was the day to do it. I decided to pull myself together, so I put on these gorgeous slippers from Wynsor Shoes, put the kettle on and got the decs out to have a super festive afternoon.

Decorating the Tree

I’ve not been feeling particularly Christmassy yet. I’m unsure why, but possibly coupled with a hellish week (burglary and two family dogs being put to sleep) and the countdown to our next trip to Amsterdam I’m pretty drained. I genuinely thought after Mexico in September I’d feel like a new person after a week lazing in the sun but I couldn’t have been more wrong. I have found myself feeling pretty low for what seems forever because all I can think about is when I can next get a sunshine fix, and sadly, that isn’t till next March. In the meantime our long awaited trip back to Amsterdam has kept me ticking over and I can’t wait to be back in our favourite European city again.

I thought I had got so in to the Black Friday sales trying to find amazing, extravagant gifts for my family, that my Christmas Grinch phase would disappear. The most exciting it got was some perfume that was half price. The Best Daughter Award does not go to me at all. It eased it a little but I still just didn’t feel quite the excitement as I used to.

Christmas Tree Decorations

Having finally erected our Christmas tree I can safely say that some of the Christmas cheer has finally worked it’s way in to my bones. I love getting cosied down, a cute and comfy outfit with the perfect pair of slippers, endless hot chocolates and Michael Buble on repeat it’s hard not to get in to the festive spirit, although Skye didn’t seem to be that bothered. She decided that her festive Christmas pudding dog jumper was not very stylish and within 5 minutes that came off.

Whilst I decorated the tree in my classic white, gold and cream decs, Mr C was busy making a mammoth lasagne. We’ve been really getting in to batch cooking making life so much simpler. The last thing you want to do when you go to work in dark and come back in the pitch black abyss is to spend ages cooking food. Sunday’s have become a real homely day for us in the household too, with decorating being a top priority. In the Spring we are hoping to get the house valued and quite possibly might be putting our first home on the market.

Wyndsor Shoes Slippers

Whilst I’ll be sad to finally leave our first home, it will be a welcome experience. Our house is quite small and we just seem to be bursting at the seams. Our home can only house a very small Christmas tree which is such a shame because if I had my way our house would be overrun with Christmas decs everywhere! I long for the dreamy little country cottage, roaring fire with the most perfect porch to hang a beautiful wreath on. I can dream, ey?

What do you do to get in the Christmas mood? What theme do you have for your Christmas tree? I’d love to hear from you in the comment section below!

      Ohhh Jess,
You’re not a bad friend at all – sometimes we all need a little social media detox. I feel like i need to go one on soon. My brain is fried thinking about how I can grow my blog and it’s seriously maxxing me out especially with a full time job too.

Sorry about your awful week but super chuffed you found some festive cheer (and perhaps the snuggliest looking slippers known to (wo)man). Sightly concerned that the pooch wasn’t loving the pudding, I may just have bought one of those…
Christmas trees, Elf and some mince pie munching. THEN it’s Christmas.

      Hi Michelle
Thank you for your lovely message – I too hope this week is a little better. Our trip to Amsterdam should put a spring in my step (fingers crossed!)
I know right? It was too small for her I think & it just irritated her, the design was so cute though! It’s such a shame it was a no-go.
      Merry Christmas,

So sorry to hear about your awful week and that you’ve been feeling so bad. I hope with the tree up your Christmas spirits can cheer you up and some lovely things come your way to balance the karma. You deserve it. xxx

Thank you Anna, it’s very rare that I share negative posts or things that are a bit dull to read but sometimes life just isn’t a cup of roses is it? (is that even a saying, oops!) But, yes, I do hope that this week is much better! We have our trip to Amsterdam so I can look forward to that! Thank you for your lovely message & I hope you are well? Hows the renovations going?

Christmas decorating is my favourite thing to do. I love your tree. It’s so beautiful. Them slippers look so cosy. I’m so sorry to here about the burglary and putting down your two dogs. I know how it feels we had had to do the same this year. We decorate our tree with special ornaments that reminds us of happy times and of the people we have lost. I hope you and your family have a beautiful Chritsmas.

Thank you Amy, it most certainly helped putting up the Xmas tree. I have to say! I just haven’t really enjoyed Christmas since the year my grandad got taken really ill and we spent it at the hospital. It’s just a weird feeling I can’t 100% shake? He’s out now, but for six months it was very touch & go!
Thank you for your lovely message – may you & your family have a healthy, happy Christmas too.

I don’t feel Christmassy yet either! I’m not sure why, I’m hoping once we get our Christmas tree up that will help a lot. Your tree looks gorgeous though! I’ve been watching lots of Christmas films snuggled with my fiance and our dog but for some reason it’s still not quite getting me into the Christmas mood haha! Fingers crossed it will set in soon!

It’s so bizarre isn’t it Sian? I’m trying to put my finger on it but I don’t know – maybe because it’s not snowed or doesn’t feel wintery outside a its just glum isn’t it? The trees helping a little bit! If you get any inspo, be sure to share with me!

This is the first year we’ve not had a Christmas tree up. Even last year when I was feeling particularly grinchy, I did eventually put one up. This year, though, we have an 11 month old kitten and when I put the tree up, a few days ago, he started chewing on it. Then he was very ill, cue emergency trip to vets, anti nausea jabs and the tree came down and went away. I still have a few Christmassy decs up that the cat can’t eat but the tree will have to wait until he’s, hopefully, a little calmer next year! Great post, I love reading about other people getting into the Christmas spirit, as it helps get me into the Christmas spirit too! | http://www.aimeeraindropwrites.co.uk | xx

    1. QueenBeady Avatar

      Hi Aimee,

Oh no! Was little kitty allergic to it? I hope you still have some festive cheer spread periodically through the house. I feel exactly the same, I think it’s partly down to the mild weather we are having. It doesn’t feel particularly Christmassy does it?

I’m glad my tree is up now though, next year my aim is to get a real tree! And fingers crossed be in a new house that can be decorated a lot better!

I love a good pair of slippers to help make you feel all the more cozy. Which is odd, because I actually hate wearing shoes….a LOT. Super lovely tree too, i’ve had the decs up for a while but have to be honest and say the Christmas feeling hasn’t hit yet either. Am sure once the holidays begin, it will hit. 😉 x

    1. QueenBeady Avatar

I’m so glad it’s not just me toots (and I don’t mean it in a morbid way) I just feel so “un-christmas” – I don’t know if it’s the mild weather or what? Nothing screams CHRISTMAS at me this year. I was a little let down by the Christmas market offerings in Amsterdam which is what I was relying on to get in the festive spirit. How bizarre?
