Bee went to Budapest #2 | QueenBeady

Budapest 2

Budapest is a beautiful place. If you can’t already guess from my first post which you can read here we fell head over heels in love with the place. As you can see from most of my photo’s my trusty Nike’s are what saved my little feet from serious pain from all the walking but it was so totally worth it.

Day 3.

Budapest Heroes Square

I was determined to get across to Heroe’s Square to see the impressive statues. Another beautiful piece of architecture from this terrific city. It was a good 3 mile trip, it took us about an hour but it did feel like a lifetime as we walked endlessy on ‘’Andrassy Street’’ to get there. It was worth it for the impressive view. We decided to have a hot chocolate as it started to rain before we ventured further.

With it being Easter a lot of places were shut so we headed to the park situated just behind the monument and we are so glad we did as there happened to be a big food festival in the grounds of Vajdahunyad Castle, which happened to be another glorious building which houses the Agricultural Museum.

The smells were a feast for the nostrils. Everywhere you looked there was a stew in a bun, a sweet pretzel, candy floss or Hungarian pizza. As a huge lover of food, it was torture deciding what to bestow our rumbling tummy’s with once dinner time chimed. We eventually decided on the Hungarian Pizza’s that use a really thick dough, flavoured with herbs. I went for just cheese and Mr C decided on a chicken fajita version. What a wonderful setting to eat dinner?

As we started walking back we realised we had passed ‘’The House of Terror’’ a truly awful building that housed the torturing, murdering of those from the Nazi and Communist regimes. I urge everyone to visit here to truly understand what those went through and how Budapest is here today in a much more liberal way of life. Photo’s weren’t allowed in the building, but for 2000HUF which is a approx £8 it is worth a visit.

Budapest 11

The building can’t be missed with it’s imposing steel surrounding, it sticks out like a sore thumb on the beautiful street of Andrassy where so much blood was shed. You will also find a section of the Berlin Wall outside, it was a surreal experience being able to touch something that is so significant of our history.

Day 4.

Sadly day 4 meant it was home time but we were determined that it would not dampen our spirits so we decided that we would just head on foot and see where it took us. With it being Easter Monday pretty much all the museums we passed were closed so it meant us wandering trying to find something to do.

Budapest 19

We headed down to the river and just walked and walked till we reached the final bridge, The Chain Bridge. I had all good intentions of trying to find the love locks (you know, like the ones in Paris.) but sadly I didn’t have much luck on this one. After much wandering & another beer later we wandered through some more streets and finally found the impressive St. Stephens Basilica. Another building of rare, intricate beauty.

Budapest 22

We managed to reacquint ourselves with where we were and found ourselves on fashion Street which seemingly is where all your typical high street stores are such as H&M and Bershka (Zara to you & I) but again, in aid of the Easter Weekend celebrations we were met with another little market for us to while away the time. Everything was so colourful & pretty.

Yes, you did read that right. Rooster testicle stew. Mmm (vom) nom. And if that was enough to put you off your food, it didn’t deter us trying to find something to fill us up before we headed back to the hotel to collect our luggage and head back to the airport. I urge you to try Jack’s Burgers if you ever visit the city. A hidden gem hiding possibly the best kept burger secret going.

As we headed back to the Airport I flicked through all my photos on my bridge camera and on my iPhone and cherished all the wonderful memories we had created in just 4 days. I’ve been truly bitten by the travelling bug again & can’t wait to head on another adventure like this!

Have you ever been to Budapest? Or is there somewhere that you fell in love with that I really need to head to next time? Let me know.

Rooster testicle stew?! Oh my goodness – I almost spat out my tea when I read that! I’m glad you opted for burgers instead!

Budapest is top of my travel wishlist – it looks like such an interesting and picturesque place to spend a few days. That food festival sounds delish! I’d definitely visit The House Of Terror: I visited similar places when I was last in Berlin and I think it’s so important to invest in places like this, so we can continue to remember the horror and tragedy in events which really weren’t so long ago.

      Hi Charlene
It really is a must! If you can get a good deal for a few nights, I’d head here. So much to do & see it’s unbelievable.
It’s horrifies me that what happened was in my grandparents life time. It’s horrible but it’s an experience that you must do to understand such a tragedy.
You just tell me about Berlin! I have the travel bug & want to visit all these amazing places that are raw with history, culture & architecture!

Wow, stunning pictures! That House of Terror building does look pretty awful. I’ve always wanted to go to Budapest, I didn’t know there would be so many things related to the stuff in Berlin as well!

That last quote, though, so so so true. 🙂 Thanks for sharing!

It was truly fascinating at The House of Terror, despite it being such a horrid building it is worth a visit.
I couldn’t believe just how much there was to do. We didn’t even get the chance to sniff at any of the natural outdoor thermal spas! So so so much to do ❤️
